My dad for many years was a grocer. He brought home a "Hires" kit along with a promotional plastic keg dispenser that gets cold in the fridge and then sits out on the counter or table top to serve.
We made up a keg of it (a couple of gallons) and had it chilled then set out. I being the generous child I was invited some friends around to sample the stuff and hid them in the back yard. About 7 of us polished the sucker off in less than ten minutes, much to the distress of my parents who actually had people they wanted to have a few laughs with over the whole thing and of course the rest of my family.
Imagine, my dad yelling at me as my friends now obvious in the yard and I puked our guts out all over the flower beds sick from way too much root beer.
Next up the story of the 8 year old boy and pop's golf tourney prize, the twenty pound Hershey Chocolate Bar.
Now there's a topic that goes back a couple years. When our kids were young we used to make root beer every summer. We used a kit from a company called "Hires". Seems to me we used to get about a hundred bottles out of a double batch. The kids thought it was funny to have root beer in coke bottles, 7 up bottles....whatever was available. ....
