I guess Toronto council is not a Democracy, where everyone votes according to their conscience.....some people want a consensus on everything ....not just the weather lol
Ya gotta read the article posed in #37.

By the logic of the city council reporters, maybe. I just don't see why they need their own shelter.

Simply to be able to hire more expensive social workers to run them. The biggest job creation project in Canada has nothing to do with industry or generating economic activity. It is all about making those with useless degrees have some hope of paying back their student loans.

You can say that again, it's mostly about nurturing bureaucrats.

Research suggests family conflict and rejection make gay young people particularly susceptible to homelessness.

They face unique difficulties in shelters, such as homophobia and physical abuse. The city has acknowledged the current system may not be able to address their specialized issues.

Homeless shelters are notoriously dangerous places.

Add homophobia into the mix and it becomes another level of dangerous.

slumming does bring it's rewards in knowing the plight of the poor.
The Real Plight of the Poor!!!!

I was not arguing against homless shelters or against helping the poor. But instead wondering why a new segredgated shelter is needed. One which will no doubt count as a shelter provided even though it was specialized.

Thanx Sal. That makes sense although a separate room in existing shelter would do the same thing and cost a he-ll of a lot less. Also this does not address the homophobia just bypasses it.

So you really think this stuff through.
A separate room would do nothing in this cases.
there is a reason homeless people avoid these places at all costs.
they are dangerous.

Another location would be a hell of a lot safer because their is no proximity for the offenders.

You people think because you work it gives you some authority on the homeless and those needing social assistance.
Obviously if someone like you , which is probably the usual , had the power to make these decisions it's based on ignorant bias.

There is a war on the poor, brought about by people with Ford Nation mentality.
They have politicians to voice their ignorance and people like you .

true enough but I can see how more kids who are bi or gay end up leaving home and I can also see how street life would be even more of a nightmare for those already marginalized...

they just need safety...

they all need safety actually...those places can be a hotbed of theft and violence

one of the better places here in town is the Betty Thompson drop in shelter...it's mostly youth and a safe and clean place to stay run by Lutherwood...but when I was working at Lutherwood these poor fuking kids had such limited places for help...their feet freeze in the winter and for the girls rape is just a common occurrence but most say better to be street raped than continue to be raped at home...it's very cool to see little steps forward in these kids over the years...

there was a kid transitioning from male to female...omg...horror stories...really bad

so one more place can only help...there are never enough places and they are always full

irBSing , you give The Illustrious Count Lothian a red for trying to educate you .

You might have some middle class life in your mom's basement, but this only serves to increase your ignorance of the real world.

Vying for the least possible allowances for the poor and mentally challenged , not to mention someone homeless, is best left in the dark ages.

Canadians are a proud lot when it comes to their willingness to give.

We live in a land so rich , even the worse politicians could not bankrupt it in a thousand years.

To be the one place on earth where anyone in need can be giving a hand up is a wondrous thing to behold.

Any , and we mean any, objection to this generosity is just not Canadian.

We see people filled with frustration and hatred , wielding their inequities here on this forum and we feel saddened, daily.

I wish you only a life of joy irBSing, maybe sex with a real live person instead of your hand might help.

Please think before you take it out on the homeless and down trodden.
