The cat o' nine was also quite effective. One application of that was more than enough to 'rehabilitate' a good many criminals! But cruel and unusual punishment is okay for victims, it seems, but not okay for those who victimize.

We have to keep in mind there are some offenders where "talking" to them just doesn't work and they need something that has more persuasion power.

That's what prisons are for. I understand that you want Canada to rank with Saudi Arabia and Iran on the human rights scale, but that's because you're an idiot.

I don't recall mentioning either Saudi Arabia or Iran! Perhaps it is you who is really the idiot! Just saying. :) P.S. the lash seems to work well in Singapore!

The sentence should match the crime. For me, I believe that if you are fortunate enough to catch a pedophile, kill it right away. They do not change or want to change. These people are not safe with kids, ever. They truly believe that the little 3 year old boy or girl are in love with them, they are sick SOB's. They cannot co-exist with children, so as perpetrators, they need to be eradicated. Same principal with rapist, if lucky enough to catch them, life in prison, no chance for parole, they're sick and cannot change, plus they are ruining men's good name. A&s holes who abuse their wife and kids!, pick them up, beat the **** out of them; if they survive, then put them in jail for a few months to recover, in the meantime, give a few guns to the wife and teach her how to use them, since it's now her responsibility to protect herself and her kids when the SOB gets out. Murders, sorry bud, life is life.. you are not God, there was no place for your victim on earth, no place for you to roam it freely, 25 years with no chance for parole. Drug Dealers, Drunk Drivers (no one died), Thieves, Arson (no one died), Embezzlement, Forgery, etc.. I think the existing law can remain, except incarcerate them in a 'boot camp' type of prison, where they are required to work, clean, cook, study, etc... from 7am to 4pm -- 5-days a week for free of course. If they get violent or refuse to cooperate, then it's their choice, bye bye, we have a jail full of rapist waiting for you. Our CO's need an overall as well!! If you cannot do the job, get out. Your paid to protect these inmates from each other, you cannot sit by and watch them getting beaten up!!

That has a lot of elements in common with my prison reform plan. Which has no chance whatsoever of being passed in the U.S.

Maybe Canada can do better.

I'm fine with 7 as long as they don't spend a lot keeping him alive that long. That would be pretty silly IMO.
