What happened to the much-touted CD that couldn't be copied? Once it's on a burner, there's no limit to the copies that can be bootlegged by 12 year olds

You got a nice rootkit installed from sony due to those cd's... the recording industry is nuts.

Did you hear they are suing usenet.com now? Going after NNTP providers, they will have a harder time with that though since most providers allow you to encrypt your data downloads + it is routed through proxies.

I vowed several years ago never to buy another recording, because of the heavy handed approach the music industry is taking to copying music.

So far, I've held to that vow. And I was not an insignificant customer. I still have a basement full of boxes of vinyl albums, a ton of cassettes, and quite a few CD's and DVD's.

I've spent my last dime on music.

Didn't those "special" CDs from Sony cause a huge vulnerability to be created on your computer?

Yeah, installed a rootkit that allowed your pc to be compromised, remotely.

I am hoping that one of the Windows updates would have taken care of that? I like how they can sue people left and right, but nothing can be done about something like that. I hope they at least got some sort of fine over that.

Actually I think the judge made the right call. This would be interesting and probably set a precedent. The determination would be, is the music being played for the customers, or the employees. If sold as part of the services at the Kwik Fit, then I think the PRS would have a cause for damages. Should it be found that the music was there for the employees then that should constitute fair and prescribed use. As the expectation of listening to the radio is that people will enjoy it for personal use while going about their day. In this case the employees, not the customers.

would not the owner of the radio be allowed to play what ever came out of it....Radio does not exist without the recievers..The purpose of the radio is to produce the sound from the radio station which is doing it's darndest to advertise for you to tune into it's station.....the artist gets paid by the radio station for radios to produce that music.....ears are a consequence but not the real culprit....if a radio station advertises it's call sign punblically then anyone tuning in is not actually resposable for the listening matter just the tuning in to the call sign due to advertising orders......
