"We are a young country; we must build on the solid rock of sound economic policies and balanced budgets. But, we must be prepared, as a nation, to step from the solid rock onto new ground. The path of ease, the path of tradition alone, is not the path of a greater Canada."

W.A.C. Bennett, Canadian Chamber of Commerce 1962.

Anyone else got one?

"This party will not take its position based on public opinion polls. We will not take a stand based on focus groups. We will not take a stand based on phone-in shows or householder surveys or any other vagaries of pubic opinion."

rofl....and then one hell of alot of people showed up at his nursery's looking for that shovel......but then....he got the last laugh.... he offered them all jobs at minimum wage (basically shoveling shyte) and only a couple took him up on the offer. The rest were "too good" to work for minimum wage.

When was the last time you worked for minimum wage and tried to pay the rent?

The US is our trading partner, our neighbour, our ally and our friend... and sometimes we'd like to give them such a smack!

I was wrong...it wasn't minimum wage..

Vander Zalm describes what happened next: "I said to Jos, 'Now listen carefully. You know that soil bin and manure bin where customers fill their own bags? Go out there and tell the crowd that anyone wanting a job moving manure from one bin to another by shovel gets a job at $8 an hour.' One lasted one hour, another lasted three hours and the remaining one lasted three days. He soon gave in, collected his pay and left. The protesters never showed up again."
