My father's branch of the family came from the south of Ireland and left during the potato famine. My mother was born in Scotland and came to Canada with her family when she was 12 years old - they'd lived in Edinburgh.

Well, I learned a lot about An Gorta Mor, and all I can say is, I'm glad your dad's people got out.

You only got out if you left all the old prejudices back there also. 99.9% just brought that over here and it continues like they are still rooted in the old country.

Simple really.

Face coverings should not be tolerated on licenses, during oaths, while witnessing in court, or in any other situation that requires visual identification or an open view of the face to judge compliance or truthfulness.

But getting on a bus? Nutso.

Crackers.
Bingo.

There is some truth in the first part of your post, having been a witness to some of it myself. However, I was also witness to those same prejudices dropping away overtime replaced by broader more inclusive beliefs.

The second part of your post is complete and utter bullshit.

Rather than use your personal experiences for the basis of my post how about a general history of how North America was settled. If Europe was down to 5 countries that supplied all the immigrants for NA it would show that the people from the UK tended to bunch up with other people from the UK, just as people from France would connect with the people from France and that would apply any ethnic group that came over. The Far east is no different and they would be like the 2nd wave. There are strong ties to the homeland in all of those cases and rather than try and abandon the past for what should be Canadian is a step that is avoided as much as possible. Remnants of the 1st wave still exist as they are the ones that call the shots (as much as possible for a puppet) in Politics and in Business and in Banking.

If the above was not true today you would not be able to find ethnic communities anyplace. You can find them in any city, the bigger the city the more ethnic groups there are. Cities also divide themselves based on wealth and that can easily be shown to show the 1st wave are the rich and the 2nd wave are the poor. That division is also on that is not easily crossed.

Overlay the two and you have the reason cities and nations are always in turmoil. Division of any kind causes stress for somebody. The rich just give a fuk, as long as they are the top of the food change. Put them at the bottom and suddenly all their old ways of doing things should be changed. No wonder the rich are despised in general.

What if your identity includes a face mask? What if the face mask is something that you wear as an act of faith like the turban.

Certainly nobody has ever cried about Canadians wearing turbans.

Actually there ha been and for legimate reasons. A turban is not a hard hat, nor can a hard hat be worn properly over one. SO to permit a person to violate safety rules because of a wacky belief system while others get reprimanded for the same offense is sending the wrong message about safety and who bears the responsibility and cost when there is an accident.

A's Isee it there are only two reasons to cover your face. Infectious disease and cold weather.

Protection from wolf-whistles.

100 years ago a 'Lady' didn't even show her ankles without being called a 'slut' by somebody.

And you can't wear a crucifix or any kind of medal religious or not where I used to work around moving machinery....
Hell, at the polling station where I voted a few years back one of the scrutineers at the polling station was a lady I went to high school with for five years, and I still had to show proof of identity, because the other two didn't know me personally!
And I complied because the law applies to everyone equally!

. . . or rings or watches or loose clothing of any kind, tightly laced boot, etc. I complied because I wanted to leave work with the same parts I arrived with.

Hearing protection should have been a law rather than optional.

Yeah, but "slut" had a different meaning in those days. It meant a woman who showed her ankles. :) :) :)

So instead y'all volunteered to come over here and kill us?

OK, makes sense.

All the killing was done with. Sorry.

It isn't like she talked to these people and got their wisdom. A picture tell you nothing other than these are all really old people.

He's full of shit, his relatives fled the Ukraine, that is why he has such a boner on for Putin.
They fled The Ottoman Empire. Ever heard of it even where it was?
