Are they going to contribute 80lbs of ruminant protein?

This just came in my email

Minister Mauro @BillMauroMPP : No Hunting Traps on Trails!

Valerie Strain
Buckhorn, Canada

Sign Valerie's petition

Unfortunately this petition involves some sad and disturbing news. While out walking with my dogs before Christmas, our dog George's head was caught in a baited kill-trap (Conibear). He died a slow death while I struggled unsuccessfully to free him. The trap was located on Crown Land just a few feet from a side trail and within 20 ft of a popular snowmobile/ATV trail.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF), through our local Conservation Officer, was informed of what happened and is investigating. However, they told us that there are no rules about how close to trails the trap can be set and no requirement to notify the public that they are there. There does not seem to be any way for the public to find out where traplines are; they could be anywhere on Crown Land, on your neighbour's property, even in Provincial Parks and you wouldn't know.
Ontario Tourism is currently running ads that show a family cross-country skiing while their dogs run off-leash beside them. Where is it safe to do that? We no longer feel secure anywhere except on our own property. Sadly, at least one other dog died this way in Ontario in December. The Belleville Intelligencer reported the death of a dog in a Conibear trap on the Heritage Trail, a popular all-season multi-use trail. The kill-trap was set within 30 feet of the trail.
My husband and I both grew up in rural areas. We had no idea the risk we were taking every time we took our dogs out on this trail. One of our responsibilities as pet owners is to keep them safe. We failed George in that regard. Please help us make sure this doesn't happen to another family pet, or worse, a child out on a walk with his parents.
To prevent more deaths on Ontario trails and improve the safety of everyone sharing our outdoor spaces, we urge the MNRF to:
1. launch a public awareness campaign about the danger to pets and people from active traps - including publishing maps online that show registered trapline areas, and
2. improve trapping practices and regulations – including setting a minimum distance from public trails, and marking trails that run close to traplines.
We hope we can turn this event into a catalyst for positive change.
Thank you.

I wonder who she'll blame when her next dog meets a quill pig.

Or fisher.

My wife got me in this local FB group because there were other local hunters looking to hook up and chat. One day a post pops up in my feed "Missing Cat".

I recognise the area and know the coyote population is heavy there. So I posted, "I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I feel it safe to say that your cat is likely coyote poop".

I was banned in about 2 minutes. People don't like reality, unless it fits their sweet little narrative.

I don't know I think it depends on what is being hunted in Africa or Canada for
that matter. There are all kinds of people hunting deer or moose or whatever
fine don't have a problem with that. Hunting elephants and some of the exotic
creatures I think we can do without.
No I am not a hunter but I am not a hand ringing don't shoot anything either
person We need to think about what is acceptable by general populations not
just the abolitionists .

That is pathetic.

If they did ban traps near trails I guarantee this woman would start bitching about flooded trails and beaver dropping trail side trees.

Trophy hunts in Africa are strictly on game farms.

Certain animals such as elephants should not be hunted or
endangered species. We hunt a myriad of animals here in
Canada and in the long run it protects most species as it
keeps the balance from exploding populations that not only
damage crops they create other problems
This idea that we are all going to share the planet like some
universal Noah's Arc is nonsense

I find many hunters have remarkably thin skin. There isn't too many people trying to stop hunting. Trophy hunting is what many folks take issue with and rightly so

What's wrong with hunting trophy? Mostly they just sit on shelves and gather dust anyway.

Mine's been deer, because they're so plentiful, and just 2 minutes walk from my house.

And I'm with you on caribou.

I never used to eat Deer, had too damn much when i was a kid, that is all we ate for a few when we did not live near to Moose. I have several acres here and it is lousy with Deer, my wife hates them as they eat all her flowers. She has nothing else to do but work with her flowers on the patio area as her electric wheelchair will not travel safely around the property.
I was very happy one day when i took the .22 and reluctantly whacked one of the little buggers (Columbian Blacktail are just tiny little Mule Deer) and found it to be very good eating!
They are not near as brave these days..........hahahahahaha!

Cooked a deer roast in my oven one time many years ago. I don't know how long it took to get the stink out of my house.

Wear much leather?

Not particularly but at least wearing leather has purpose (protection from the weather) and the meat gets eaten. I suppose making your house look tacky by hanging dead animal heads on the walls could be considered purposeful. I just prefer that people at least try and eat the meat so that it isn't completely wasteful.

Well, I agree that trophy heads are tacky.

My notion is to get the trophy hunters and the protesters to hunt each other. Win-win!
