The bible is a work of fiction. About the best that could be said is that a few parts may be based on a true story.
It's historical fiction, kinda like the movie "Final Countdown," where the 1980s USS Nimitz is transported back in time to the day before Pearl Harbor. The Nimitz is accurate, the Pearl Harbor attack is accurate.

The Center for the Study of Global Christianity at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary estimated 34,000 denominations in 2000, rising to an estimated 43,000 in 2012. These numbers have exploded from 1,600 in the year 1900.

However in its modern incarnation the term is used in any scenario where two (usually male) individuals are going to have some sort of competition. Eg Darts, Snooker, an actual fight, even videogames. It is rarely a serious threat.
