You know, I hear you, but now factor in P.E.I. to your idea.
It has climate going for it, but not Population, or land mass,
or bountiful natural resources, and the Cod Moratorium in
place, etc....though it does have tourism.

How would a jurisdiction like P.E.I. deal with your program?

I'm not picking on P.E.I. but am using it as an example of
what Equalization was partially created to protect, to help
provide comparable levels of service with the rest of Canada.

Maybe places like NB, NS and PEI need to join together and find relative efficiencies in working together. Look at the communities in the Queen Charlotte's in BC. many small islands and communities manage to get by just fine without operating as a stand alone jurisdiction

The island provinces are certainly interesting, but the end of day analysis still begs these questions.

Excuse me? I'm not clear as to what you are trying to state.

I'm stating that Saskatchewan was carried by the Eastern provinces over this period.

Thank you for the clarification regarding your previous statement.
Please feel free to provide a link to your statement, so that it can
be shown as a fact, and not just your opinion, right or wrong.

Or we can just go to the scoreboard:

Now, this IS just from 1959-now, so only the last 59 years.

The West was not opened up to loose money. If it was, it would
still be unsettled territory to this day. Don't delude yourself into
thinking that fortunes where not made in Eastern Canada by
opening up the West, because if that wasn't so, it just wouldn't
have happened. Revenue flowed East by settlers flowing west
and north.

Western Canada does not exist due to the benevolence and
altruism of Eastern Canada, if that is what you are alluding to.

I can, and believe have, backed up any statements I've made.
Please feel free to do the same.

Dig out of 1900 to 2007

I find it curious that you start your claim in 1900. Interesting.
Have you looked at a map of Canada from 1900?

What happened? That great big potential opposition to the
future power of Eastern Canada was becoming kind of a
scary thing. How do you begin to ensure that the center of
power and wealth will remain in Eastern Canada for the
foreseeable future?

Have you ever heard of the proposed Province of Buffalo?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Province_of_Buffalo

Still too much of a threat. Best chop that up too.

I should have said 1905 when my family arrived there from the UK.

Cool! That was an interesting year politically in Canada!!!

My ancestor arrived right around that time too but on a not
so direct or quick trip from the UK, with a several year stop
over (involuntarily) in Australia, and then a war to fight in
South Africa, before landing in Canada. If you know your
history, you can make a pretty good guess as to my
ancestors itinerary. Anyway....1905 in Canada....

1905 the map above became the map below:

Making Western Canada much more politically controllable.
Please note the proposed Province of Buffalo above that got
shot down....

There is a "Lorimer Crescent" and a little park plus a lane named after that 1905 ancestor of mine in Regina.

Huh! Small world!

There might be some red-headed kidney donors biologically
related to Blackleaf's Queen that my direct ancestor might
be responsible for....thus the involuntary trip to Australia for
a number of years, with the only exit being to go get shot at
by the Boers, fighting for King & Country, as the ticket out
of Australia (no "Goodday Mate & Shrip on the Barbie" at
that time). The reward being the ability to emigrate to any
-where in the Commonwealth (except back to the UK), and
thus our debating on Canadian Content today.

Even smaller world. I went to the high school a few blocks from that Crescent.

Anyway, please excuse my total derailment of this Thread.
Back to bashing Saskatchewan specifically and the West in
general, as this Troll Thread was meant to be.

As long as the money used is going back into investment (with the exception of oil subsidies), they should be fine.

I think the federal Liberals should subsidize all Oil and Service companies that are falling on hardship because of the low price of Oil.

If the inefficient Auto sector was subsidized during its hardship, there is no reason the Oil companies should not be subsidized for the same reason.

Like health-care and infrastructure?

As you mentioned 10 months ago, $100M was due to a natural disaster. As for the other $123M, 5 new hospitals and the largest infrastructure project in the history of the Province are currently under construction.

Hop on a plane to Regina sometime, 3/4 of those flying are flying back to work from all over Canada after the end of their rotation.

Solyndra was a fine investment for the US into renewables... A fine, fine investment

Glad you support renewable investment!

Now if we could only get rid of those oil subsidies, the market would be able to take off without the competitive disadvantage.

...but still a charity case, none the less....

How So? On what scale? In comparison to which jurisdiction?

...Now if we could only get rid of those oil subsidies, the market would be able to take off without the competitive disadvantage.

Unlike the subsidies creating a competitive disadvantage for other
energy sources like wind and solar, etc....? I'm so seriously doing
an internal debate regarding just deleting my own post here before
I post it, so as to not derail the Thread again into the circular
argument surrounding the current failure of so called Green
Energy, leading it away from the spirit of the O.P. from bashing
Saskatchewan specifically and Western Canada in general.

Green Energy is a repercussion of a centrist government that still has faith in private industry.

Ontario could have done better, but BC did it right.
