Cannabis treats prostate cancer, study finds
Wed, 19 Aug 2009 13:32:00 GMT
Font size :

Following the growing interest in medical benefits of cannabis, a new study finds that the compound can help fight prostate cancer.

According to the study published in the British Journal of Cancer, chemicals found in cannabis can stop prostate cancer cells from growing in the laboratory.

Its active chemicals known as cannabinoids -- methanandamide and JWH-015 -- are also reported to be effective in reducing the size of the tumor in mice.

The compound is believed to block CB2 receptors on the surface of the cancerous tissue, preventing the division and growth of the tumor cells. It is reported to be more effective in treating aggressive prostate cancer cell types, which do not respond to existing hormone treatments.

Scientists hope that cannabis-based medicines could help fight prostate cancer in the near future.

They, however, stressed that an individual should not start smoking cannabis with the aim of fighting the disease as its use is associated with psychotropic effects.

It stressed that you should not smoke cannabis becuase of course you are an idiot and might hurt yourself, and it is associated with psychotropic effects. ASSOCIATED WITH! Famous for it! Renowned for it! LOVED for it! Some of these writers should be associated with de boot in de head.

I have trouble believing you ever had any religious instruction at all, cliffy, much less Catholic. I'd suggest you might start with the Lives of the Saints, to put in order exactly what is expected at the apex of religious life.

It's you cliffy, that seems drawn, to contest religion whenever its brought up here, with whatever patter and slander you can muster.

Maybe your own form of anti-ecclesiaticism, since you reject the term atheism, even though your god is utterly without imminence, or, moral or material form.. simply isn't giving you much succour.. and your antagonism is simply a plea for something more substantial

Many saints started that way, cliffy. ;-)

That you have trouble believing that someone would reject your dogma is not surprising but I was an alter boy for a while and was raised a catholic by a father who was prone to violent out bursts if I did not perform my catholic duties as he saw fit. I was schooled by the sadistic penguins and lay brothers who were even more sadistic.

My antagonism, as you put it, has to do with the crusades, the Inquisition, the witch hunts and the rape and murder of innocent children in residential schools, the molestation of alter boys and the protection of pedophile priests.

I believe in the Great Spirit and Mother Earth. Much more benevolent entities than your psychopathic god of war. If I want succor I will find a woman who is willing lend me the use of her breasts. They are the proper instruments of succor.

Like in the other thread I can see that this is just getting you more and more upset. You're not even talking about the topic anymore. You don't have to answer the question anymore. Have a good one Canuck. ;-)

Like on the other thread, I can see your drug use has you confused. You're not even talking about the topic anymore. I never had to answer the question. You have a good one too UF.

Cannabis Kills All Known Germs..Dead..including MRSA superbug

http://pr.cannazine.co.uk/200904241000/gre...

http://pr.cannazine.co.uk :The increase in MRSA infection in UK hospitals is a growing concern for both doctors and patients alike, but according to an American based company an effective, cannabis-based disinfectant is available to fight the super-bug.

MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) is a type of bacteria which has become increasingly resistant to antibiotics. MRSA infection has become increasingly difficult to treat, and can lead to death.

The number of cases of MRSA has been rising sharply - from 2,422 in 1997 in England and Wales, to 7,684 in 2003/4 in England alone. Official figures show that about 15% of reported MRSA cases result in death.

Disinfectant - A Huge Market
UK Children of the 70's and the 80's will be well familiar with the famous Domestos bleach TV adverts which ran for a couple of decades.

Domestos..Kills all known germs..Dead!

Much as they do today, animated germs and bugs ran riot across our screens (and down our toilet bowls), and the unbeatable bleach product would swing in as our saviour, and that of our families and young children.

Today, disinfectant is a huge consumer market, which sees shoppers spending millions of pounds sterling every year on liquid for the toilet, for the kitchen sink, and of course, the new generation of bleach/disinfectant wipes and sprays, used to protect our families from cross-contamination on the kitchen work-tops and food preparation areas.

If only we could kill germs and bugs as efficiently in our hospitals, right? Well apparently we can, according to a study which says Cannabis has shown "Exceptional" antibacterial activity against MRSA.

But the truth is no-one wants us to know about it. At the behest of a government which is dead set against any positive news regarding cannabis being released for general consumption, the press simply refuses to tell us about it.

But thankfully thats not the case in America.

Cannabis Science Inc
Dr. Robert Melamede, PhD., Director and Chief Science Officer for American based Cannabis Science Inc, reported recently on the current state of research into the use of natural plant cannabinoids to reduce the spread of drug-resistant bacteria, including methicillin-resistant Staphyloccus aureus (MRSA), and the prospects for development of topical whole-cannabis treatments.

According to studies published in the Journal of the American Medical Association and by the Center for Disease Control in 2007, MRSA is responsible for more than 18,500 hospital-stay related deaths each year, and increased direct healthcare costs of as much as $9.7 billion.

Dr. Melamede stated, “Research into use of whole cannabis extracts and multi-cannabinoid compounds has provided the scientific rationale for medical marijuana’s efficacy

in treating some of the most troubling diseases mankind now faces".

"Infectious diseases such as the flu and HIV, autoimmune diseases such as ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease), multiple sclerosis, arthritis, and diabetes".

Amazingly this also includes neurological conditions such as Alzheimer’s, stroke and brain injury, as well as numerous forms of cancer.

"One common element of these diseases", continues Dr Melamede, "is that patients often suffer extended hospital stays, risking development of various Staphyloccus infections including MRSA".

"A topical, whole-cannabis treatment for these infections is a functional complement to our cannabis extract-based lozenge.”

Investigators at Italy's Universita del Piemonte Orientale and Britain's University of London, School of Pharmacy reported in the Journal of Natural Products that five cannabinoids - THC, CBD, CBG, CBC, and CBN - "showed potent antibacterial activity" and "exceptional" antibacterial activity against two epidemic MRSA occurring in UK hospitals.

FDA-approved oral cannabinoid analogues for chemotherapy nausea and such, nabilone/Cesamet, are crap compared to the real thing. No IV delivery works either. Compazine is worthless. One is disgusted that cancer chemotherapy can horribly rot a person’s body with full FDA approval butsmoking a joint mandates heinous armed Federal response.
“The most frequent side effects were drowsiness, vertigo, dry mouth, and euphoria.” Euphoria! That’s good for 20 years in jail all by itself (compete with SSRIs, get crunched). “Pain is Christ kissing you,” Mother Teresa. One hopes her husband gave her a full deep frenching.

I just had to note, cliffy, in looking at the development of this thread, it was you who turned the topic to religion, my original posts were all on marijuana. I seem to remember that is not the first time that this has happened.. so who's obsessed.. you or i.

You'll find faithful Catholics are far more outraged by the abomination of homosexual pedophile predators and imposters in the priesthood than any outsider. And you'll find vestiges of cruelty in all aspects of human organization, i'd say most notably today in the viciously anti-human character of pagan Mother Earth cults.

Perhaps your real faith, rather than the concoction of cruelty and hysteria you have fabricated as such, is calling you back ;-)

Personally, I find it ridiculous that someone would think that how useful pot is or isn't for pain can be judged by their own experience using it recreationally.

I've used pot for pain, and it could give me almost ten days pain free. 10 days. That has huge implications. In the end, like most medications I'd tried, the side effects were undesirable and I couldn't stomach taking it anymore, but that doesn't negate the fact that some people can tolerate the side effects just fine and use it successfully.

Given the options of liver damage, kidney damage, and stomach damage, lung damage was just another side effect to weigh the risks on. No med I take is safe, be it pharmaceutical, herbal, or distilled in nature.

Oh Lord please preserve us from this cannabis inquisitor that Satan has set among us.

My problem with cannabis is its peculiar 'deforming' quality to character and personality. Alcohol certainly can have deteriorating effects on both, but, for the large majority of users, is well tolerated and moderated. I don't think that is so with cannabis. It is a very 'interior' and consuming type of drug. It can really take you off your life's game plan.

Maybe its just me, but virtually everyone who i'm still in contact with from my dope days has left that lifestyle. Those who i've heard of who stayed in it went on to worse things.

Again, you're bringing up recreational users seeking a high, seeking to internalize, in a discussion about those who are seeking pain relief.

I can't help but wonder how many chronic pain sufferers on Percocet, Oxycontin, etc. you know. Their character warps from the meds too. But even more notable is the character warping nature of pain. You should see me at my worst. My outgoing nature is replaced by a need to have no one around. My energetic nature is replaced by complete exhaustion. My chattiness turns to silence, and my snuggliness disappears and every touch becomes excruciatingly painful. My husband would get me anything on those days, just to get a glimmer of his wife back, no matter how grim a view he takes of its recreational use.

I'm sorry, karrie, i'm bringing up the 99% of supposed pain remedy seekers who just want to get high. And regardless of your motives the effects are the same, and my guess merely distract from rather than relieve pain.

I think you ought to show some statistics on med seeking behaviour and see how many are just drug abusers, and how many are actual pain patients. Because if one just wants to get high under the guise of pain relief, it's easier and cheaper to lie about pain and get pills through your med plan. Percocet, Oxycontin, etc. If people want pot just to get high, they usually just say that straight up. I've never seen anyone lie about it.

I like how you just make up some statistic to prove your point. Am I right that you're a controling person irl?
