He forgot two cardinal rules. 1. When you turn one of them upside down you'll see other friends. 2. It may stretch a little but it will never wear out. Now he thinks about those. Too late General. White House 'Held Affair Over Petraeus's Head' For Favorable Testimony On Benghazi
CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER: I think the really shocking news today was that General Petraeus thought and hoped he could keep his job. He thought that it might and it would be kept secret, and that he could stay in his position. I think what that tells us is really important. It meant that he understood that the FBI obviously knew what was going on. He was hoping that those administration officials would not disclose what had happened, and therefore hoping that he would keep his job. And that meant that he understood that his job, his reputation, his legacy, his whole celebrated life was in the hands of the administration, and he expected they would protect him by keeping it quiet.
And that brings us to the ultimate issue, and that is his testimony on September 13. That’s the thing that connects the two scandals, and that’s the only thing that makes the sex scandal relevant. Otherwise it would be an exercise in sensationalism and voyeurism and nothing else. The reason it’s important is here’s a man who knows the administration holds his fate in its hands, and he gives testimony completely at variance with what the Secretary of Defense had said the day before, at variance with what he’d heard from his station chief in Tripoli, and with everything that we had heard. Was he influenced by the fact that he knew his fate was held by people within the administration at that time?
Of course it was being held over Petraeus’s head, and the sword was lowered on Election Day. You don’t have to be a cynic to see that as the ultimate in cynicism. As long as they needed him to give the administration line to quote Bill, everybody was silent. And as soon as the election’s over, as soon as he can be dispensed with, the sword drops and he’s destroyed. I mean, can you imagine what it’s like to be on that pressure and to think it didn’t distort or at least in some way unconsciously influence his testimony? That’s hard to believe.

He should resign if he was not forthright about the affair as he is in a position that can't be compromised by blackmail. But if he answered FBI investigators truthfully, than that's between him and the FBI, not my business until he's testifying in court. Petraeus's personal life shouldn't be public. Everyone including public officials must have a right to a private life. Patraeus's career should be based on his record, not his former mistress's nasty emails.

The book's rapid rise has caught the attention of publisher Penguin Press. Its paperback edition has been moved up to Nov. 21.
That's all good news for any first-time biographer, but it can't be much consolation for Broadwell.
She's at the center of a media storm. Speculation is rampant that a letter published in a New York Times article about an affair, headlined "My Wife's Lover," was written by her husband (although the Times says it believes that is not the case). And the Petraeus affair was allegedly discovered after a woman's complaint to the FBI about threatening emails led to Broadwell

This is looking more and more like Reality TV. Paula Broadwell and Jill Kelley are a match for the Kardashian sisters.. only this is being played out the highest echelons of the U.S. military and intelligence complex.
They seem to have found the achilles heels of these 4 star generals.. in the their vanity at seeing their names in print.. or an affection for good cigars and brandy at smokers they hosted. And like the Kardashians they are leaving a trail of ruined careers and broken hearts in their wake.

She publicly apologized for the damage done to her family and others. She has used her fame and connections to promote worthy causes – including helping wounded veterans. And she has tried to stay local and on-message.
That message is: Broadwell, 40, is eager to move forward and not look back. You hear it from her Dilworth neighbors, from her fellow military veterans, and from her Washington-based spokeswoman, Dee Dee Myers, former press secretary to President Bill Clinton.
But unresolved issues could threaten this controlled reentry and bring more unflattering headlines.
The FBI is still investigating ex-CIA director Petraeus – including whether Broadwell received classified information – Attorney General Eric Holder has told Congress.
Then there’s Jill Kelley of Tampa, who recently sued the U.S. government for invasion of privacy. Broadwell isn’t a defendant. But last week, Fox News, citing an unnamed source, said Broadwell had stalked Kelley, who was once portrayed as a rival for Petraeus’ affections.
Still, Broadwell may have an easier time in her rehabilitation campaign because of where she lives.
“Charlotte is a place that is very forgiving … and a good place to start over,” said historian Dan Morrill. “Part of that comes from its diversity and part of it comes from its pragmatic nature. Charlotte is not too interested in who your grandparents were. It’s primarily interested in what you can do.”
The Observer asked for an interview with Broadwell, but Myers said she is not granting such requests and has no plans to comment on past controversies or current investigations and lawsuits.

Scores of academics at the City University of New York have signed a petition calling for charges against six students, arrested during a protest against David Petraeus, to be dropped. The academics have also called for the former four-star general to resign from his teaching role at CUNY.
The six students were detained on Tuesday as they demonstrated outside a fundraiser being attended by Petraeus, who began his career as a CUNY adjunct professor this month. The students were charged on Wednesday night with multiple offences including disorderly conduct, riot, resisting arrest and obstruction of governmental administration.
However protesters argue that police were heavy-handed as they conducted the arrests. Video footage showed one demonstrator being repeatedly struck in the ribs as officers place him in handcuffs.
The arrests, which were conducted at what demonstrators insist was a peaceful protest, have galvanised support for the protesters from CUNY students and professors and from professors elsewhere in New York and beyond.
"As graduate students and educators of CUNY, we express our outrage at the violent and unprovoked actions by the NYPD against CUNY students peacefully protesting the appointment of war criminal David Petraeus as a lecturer at the Macaulay Honors College," said a statement signed by scores of CUNY academics. "We deplore the use of violence and brutal tactics against CUNY students and faculty who were protesting outside the college."
Petraeus was set to earn $200,000 for teaching a three-hours-a-week course titled "Are We On the Threshold of the North American Decade?" This was reduced to $150,000 after uproar over his wage, before Petraeus and CUNY agreed it would be reduced to a nominal $1, in order "to remove money as a point of controversy".
A statement from the Ad Hoc Committee Against the Militarization of CUNY, which is organising the protests, said in a statement: "A broad range of CUNY students, faculty and staff members have been carrying out a campaign of 'protest and exposure' against the Board of Trustees' appointment of Petraeus, whose documented actions as Iraq/Afghanistan war commander and CIA chief include drone attack supon civilians, and the creation of torture centers and death squads."
Petraeus's first class was on Monday 9 September. Afterwards, a group of students heckled him as he walked down a Manhattan street. A video of the event went viral, although the protesters, who could be heard berating Petraeus as a "piece of ****", were criticised in some quarters for the aggressive nature of their demonstration.
