If the plan doesn't include cadavers and body bags the Republicans won't support it.

I was actually really confused, during the address given tonight by His Excellency the Honorable Barack Obama, President of the United States of America, why the responses of the audience were what they were. The Republican Party seemed to withhold its applause at extremely odd times, such times that suggested (to me) an extremely callous attitude toward the health of the American people. There were occasions when the entire memberships of both of the Houses of Congress rose to support the speech, which I thought was good.

One incident that genuinely shocked me was the interruption of the president’s speech by The Honorable Representative Joe Wilson (2nd District of South Carolina), with a shout of “You lie!” when the head of State was discussing the fact that the proposed health care reforms would not cover undocumented immigrants. The president had even cited and read the particular section of the proposed reforms that provided that the reforms would not cause undocumented immigrants to be covered—and nonetheless, a member of the House of Representatives attempted to shout down the president. I hope that Representative Wilson is censured once the House of Representatives next meets in normal session.

''it is beginning to look like Democrats are serious about health care reform, that they may actually pass something. ''

As for me, I won't settle for anything less than a European style system.

Gopher, politics is the art of the possible. One does what one can, with what is available. I seriously doubt that public option will pass the Senate. It is in the interest of USA (and of Democrats) to pass what they can this time around.

They failed to do so in 1993; it took 16 years for another opportunity to arise. If they do nothing, they may not get another chance for perhaps 20 or 25 years (not to mention that they stand to suffer heavy losses next election).

If Decorates are wise, they will pass something that is acceptable to all democrats (with or without Republican support). They control the presidency; have a big majority in the House, a filibuster proof majority in the Senate. If they cannot pass a bill now, when can they?

I voted no.

The reasons for a national health system in the US is to use a term from the past "levelling" (read Marx, Lenin or Trotsky) of social status on a North America basis.

The SPP(NAU) is a communist plot!

All they need to do is to go back to their DNC platform of August 2008.

''which European system''

I remain open to any alternative to what we now have.

That is bizarre.

Election platforms are made to be ignored, Gopher. Republican Party has part of its platform that it wants to ban all abortions. What has it done to that effect so far, except maybe trying to appoint prolife Supreme Court judges? They put that in every time as a sop to the religious right.

It is the same with Democratic Party. Platform is really more of a wish list, rather than a promise that the party will try to implement the platform (not in Canada though, if a party gets a majority, it will implement most of its platform). Democrats should pass the best possible deal they can get. And Republicans are not really that much of a problem, Democrats have 60 votes in the Senate. The argument is more between moderate Democrats and liberal Democrats.

Republicans claim they want to stop abortion but it was they who legalized and financed it from Day One. See my earlier posts on John D Rockefeller, Prescott Bush, and Clarence Gamble's financing of Nazi Margaret Sanger's eugenics campaigns.

Mandatory Health care plan for high risk patients?

With no American Public Health care option .It's all political B.S. Games...Sounds like insurance companies with their political buddies are creating a Mandatory health care plan for high risk patients.

Is there no bottom to how low Republican Capitalists will sink for the mighty $$$$ .Seemingly Always at the expense of the Tax paying ,Slave Drones..Same ol ..Same Ol..It get's tiring and Sad to watch ,Over and over again...

Obama is Good motivational speaker .Still believe he will be one of the greatest presidents of all time..(If he does what he said he was going to:) ).. However ...I'm Startin to wonder if Obama is the man he claimed to be during his election( like most politicians after winning elections)..Having said that . Are there really any other alternative choices for president? .Not yet .. So far Obama still looks like a safe bet for the long 8 yr haul ..!..

He is a typical politician, Greenfish. Why would he be any different?

We are more than three years away from the next election, give it time. No doubt credible republican challengers will emerge in due time.

Well , Republicans have floated a few prospects around .Still no realistic challengers that I can see right now or on the horizon...None have a chance if Obama is successful on Education reform / implementing Green/Clean energy initiatives/ creatin jobs/....As for health care --Think Obama had an election agreement with J/Mc Cain / V.P. Biden / W.H.O ....

Years for us..Now for politicians ..Takes alot of planning/money to win an election.. G.O.P /Republicans are in no position to claim the presidency.. It's a fairly safe bet ....We'll see ..:)
