well, they are homeless so obviously they can't be held responsible for their crimes... society has failed them, we need to rehabilitate these filthy street urchins.

Doesn't take a genius to find it, Mercury. Always gotta get the jabs in, eh?

Here's the story of which Doc speaks:

Panhandler in stabbing death case pleads guilty

toronto.ctv.ca

One of four panhandlers charged in connection with the stabbing death of a St. Catharines man has pleaded guilty.

Faith Watts pleaded guilty Monday to assaulting a police officer and obstructing justice after being involved in a brutal attack on a tourist walking around the Queen Street West neighbourhood this past summer.

Ross Hammond and his friend were surrounded by a group of panhandlers asking for money around 12:30 a.m. on August 9. The two men refused to give them cash and an argument ensued.

Hammond was stabbed several times in the chest and died in hospital a few days later.
Watts and three others were charged. Only one of the panhandlers is a Canadian citizen. The other three, including Watts, are all from the United States.

Watts, a 22-year-old from California, admitted head-butting a police officer while being arrested and impeding paramedics trying to wheel Hammond into a waiting ambulance. She also pleaded guilty to giving police a false name, Sarah McDermit, when arrested.

She will serve two months in jail in addition to the two months she has already served.

ah, so it is hot air then?

take your meds doc, she's not the murderer, and 120 days for being in the wrong place at the wrong time, or, associating with the wrong people, if you will, seems more than adequate for someone with no priors mentioned.

Cos, perhaps you can explain about 'being hysterical' (hot air) to doc so he'll understand it's a by-product of 'jumping to conclusions' after not having taken in all the facts.

<snipped by mod> you know naught of which you speak, so suck it up.
Suck it up? WTF are you talking about Mercury? I know exactly what's been going on since the day y'all entered Canadian Content, and that's all that matters to me. The crap you slung before you arrived here has no place at this board.

Ya, Niflmir, you are correct. Reminds me of an old saying...

"Never try to teach a pig to sing. It wastes your time and annoys the pig."

I shall withdraw from this now.

You joking! Someone told me you can get over 100 dollars a day just picking up bottles off the street. It is not like they have any rent to pay either. Considering jail is probably not that much worse for these people the decision just gave the homeless free rain to kill. That aught to do wonders for the saftey of our streets.

Maybe you know a version of what happened before you returned here filtered through what someone wants you to think. That you can say "the crap you slung" indicates the depth of the lies you've been told about the old place and what it was like there.

This woman was not charged with murder, being an accomplice before or after the fact, or conspiracy to commit.

Therefore, 120 days for assault and obstruct is a perfectly acceptable sentence to our liberal dominated judiciary.

Vote Tory.

In every sense

Wrong, Unforgiven. I took the time to go back and read posts from the "early days" of the Viners arriving at CC. Prior to that, I couldn't care less. If it didn't happen here, it's none of my business. I only concern myself with this board. ~shrug~ So there. :p

this thread's been highjacked enough folks.

back to the topic at hand.

goat... I have to ask... why wasn't she charged with murder, or conspiracy to commit murder? And who WAS charged? Anyone have any idea here? Because I mean, if she was involved enough to be trying to keep the paramedics from doing their jobs, and involved enough to be headbutting police, resisting arrest, it seems to me that 4 months total isn't enough. Who's serving the time for this heinous act?

i don't think we should all be surprised, there are people who do much much worse and get "life" and yet are back on the streets in a couple years, its just how our society/ system works around here. I don't see why people are finding this case surprising, personally i'm not surprised!

Was the person released after charged? The incident was a while back, and doesn't the time served before trial count as double time when they sentence?

Edit: oops, nevermind...

What right of rehabilitation does the perpetrator have. The victim probably lost while over 20 years of life while the perpetrator didn’t even serve a year. How can the punishment possibly fit the crime?
