One question- S.J. why do you who profess tolerance for minorities keep up the sarcastic moniker for Rush Limbaugh? Do you have the same intolerance for cancer patients or heart patients as you do for addicts? Labels are a sign of social ignorance. Who knows if he didn't come by his addiction from treatment of one of the "honourable" diseases?

Because he is a hypocrite, JLM. He has spent most of his life ranting and raving against drug addicts (on his radio show), he has always been going on about how drug addicts are the scum of the earth and how they deserve stiff prison sentences.

Then it turns out that he has been addicted to pain killers all along. If somebody is addicted to pain killers (due to being in pain) and is trying to get off, it would normally evoke sympathy, compassion.

However, when somebody has spent his life telling us how drug addicts are the evil incarnate and how they should be locked up for life, then drug problems of somebody like that evoke nothing but contempt and ridicule.

Just a couple of other little details, Y.J. -knowledge of politics, articulate, methodical, even tempered, attractive personality, intelligent, loyalty to his country, has interest of fellow Americans at heart, otherwise like you think, he's a dud. Merry Xmas Y.J.

And don't forget the huge, gigantic mess Bush had made, both of economy and foreign policy, and left the office with an approval rating of 22% (half that of Carter).

Hey, EVERYONE of us is a hypocrite, but I can agree with you about Rush- up to a point, but (as Paul Harvey used to say) have you heard "the rest of the story"? Unless you know everything that's happened in his life it's pretty tough to make a fair judgment.

What's worse.... a big mouth who finds himself addicted to prescription drugs ... or a big mouth who continually manipulates both word and figure in order to satisfy his mania to be right.

People who live in glass houses?

Sorry JLM, but he who lives by the sword, dies by the sword. Having spent his entire life badmouthing drug addicts, telling the world what a thoroughly bad lot they are, how they must be locked up for years, I don’t think he can expect any sympathy now, when it is revealed that he is also a drug addict, has been one for years, and pleaded guilty to a criminal charge for shopping around for pain killers.

Those who live in glass houses should not throw stones at others.

" has been one for years, and pleaded guilty to a criminal charge for shopping around for pain killers."

I for one would want to know much more about that before condemning him. There's a chance, that someone in incruciating pain, may do things he wouldn't otherwise do. There is also a chance that his bad mouthing addicts is just a smoke screen he is sending out. There is also a chance that he made a bad decision in his life that he's having a hard time compensating for.
Perhaps if some miracle happened where he was restored to where he was before he got "derailed", he would then go on to lead an honourable life. Everyone has a cross to bear of some description and I suspect you as much or more than anyone. Merry Xmas.

How many people in the world have fallen off the wagon so to speak? So what, Rush is a politician want to be, actor, radio talk show host. Anybody and everybody should advocate against abusing drugs of any kind. So you fall off the wagon, important thing is that you get back ASAP.

Do we have any Left Wing celebrities who are an advocate for anti drug groups? (Any notable Left Winger)

I quite agree that anybody and everybody should advocate against drug abuse. However, the emphasis should be in helping the drug addicts, in rehabilitating them, not locking them up or drawing and quartering them.

And that is what Limbaugh has been advocating all his political life. So when it turns out that he is addicted to pain killers, well, the general reaction is, ‘couldn’t have happened to a more deserving guy.’

He did not show any sympathy, any compassion toward drug addicts when he demanded that they be locked up in prison for a long time. Why should anybody feel even a scarp of sympathy, a scarp of compassion for him?

At least to his detractors, he will forever be known as the drug addict hypocrite (to his followers, the dittoheads, of course, he is a hero, he can do no wrong).

The truth lies somewhere in between- he's a man with a problem and in all likelihood has "a cross to bear" - he's also a politician (in the philosophical sense)

Mania...that is a very fitting word for the one in question.

All I have to say is that if she and McCain had won this past election, I would have just sold everything and left the country as a refugee and if she is for 2012 I hope all my paperwork is finished with immigration by then. I already planned to leave, but a lot of my American coworkers all stated they would jump ship to Australia. They think Canada is too cold.

I am not a eco-animal hating dim wit who has poor grammar and thinks it is "cute" to wink during a debate. BTW, if you knew the people I work with, they WON'T be back. So, the swinging door will not be an issue.
