When I think fire tornado, I think Hamburg and Dresden. Most of the footage I saw I would classify as fire devils, in my non-expert opinion. Still wouldn't wanna be fighting fires with those fuckers popping up though.
The problem is, it is easy to get trapped. Chasing spot fire on a hillside with strong winds is a good way to find yourself cut off from any escape route.
From what I have seen, the big problem is bureaucracy. Have to find out who is paying for what before any work can commence. It doesn't appear that there was ever any worst case plan for something like this.
Basically, how the first hour goes is how the next week is going to go. Start out with a gong show, and you will have the mother of all fuck ups in short order.

Here.

Firestorm

Fire "tornado" is new to me. But in WWII the Army studied the firestorm of Peshtigo, Wisconsin, in 1871 with the specific intent of incendiary bombing to create those conditions in such places as Tokyo and Dresden.

Like Atmospheric River for a rainy day. Last year the couple of cold days we had was a Weather Bomb .

Fire Tornadoes are rare to see because conditions for a 'tornado' have to be specific as it is; add in the constant heat of a fire and you don't get it. What most people would see are whirls and other similar things.

But they're not new.

Weather Bomb was used around 1940's.

Atmospheric River started to get used in the 1990's

Though even if they were "new", doesn't mean they're not legitimate/serious.

They were firestorms no doubt but survivors of Dresden and Hamburg recalled seeing actual tornados of fire. I think there's even rare aerial footage of one IIRC.
Even the Allies were somewhat taken aback by them.
