Logical thinking and deductive reasoning may just be an art form. I aslo think Skeptics play a game of 'prove it to me' making you do cart wheels to prove your end only to have it wiped away with some flimsy excuse or reason.

On the flip side, it is healthy to question everything. Your faith, loyalty, any institution. In todays world , if anyone wants your welll being ASK ALOT OF QUESTIONS !!!!!!!8O

My advice , take it in as just said, don't judge it , proof will have a way to bubble to the surface .

I didn't want to pass judgment on it Cliff, just thought seeing the results would be very interesting, but then I guess the only ones who are going to vote are the ones who want to see changes or are VERY DEAD AGAINST changes.

Change is not always a good thing - like the law against women's rights in Afghanistan.

Strange how some Americans - even those 200+ years ago - could clearly see the country North of them which was and still is populated by people who were - and still are - too cowardly to tell the king/queen where to go.

Now, permit me to quote Cliffy:

"I heard a guy on the radio one time, saying in an evangelical like voice, that it was so wonderful that Canadians were so willing to give up some of their freedom for a little security. What was frightening was how excited he was about it and how true it was."

I think it was in North Dakota or South Dakota that they tried to pass a referendum banning all abortions, but failed miserably. The referendum was defeated 55 to 45.

North Dakota is an extreme right wing state, religious right is very strong there, so I assume they will pass the law declaring fetus a human being form birth. However, I don’t see that stopping abortions, Supreme Court will shoot down any attempts to ban abortions.

The votes just aren’t there in SC to ban abortions. If McCain had won, that would have been a different story; he was committed to appointing Fundamentalist Christians to the Supreme Court.

How to be open-minded??

1. Believe everything you read in the Main Stream Media.

2. Never make decision for yourself by actually finding out what the other side says, by personal experience.

3. NEVER read a publication that you heard was opposing of your views.

4. Never watch a TV channel station or listen to a radio station which - according to rumours - are opposing of your views.

5. Categorically call any news source as unreliable and
subjective if you have no personal EXPERIENCE with them.

6. Reject any suggestion that you might get a better perspective if you give the other side a chance if you only had the decency to be fair, and listen to their point of view.

7. Twist, spin and distort anything and everything you hear or your opponents says to prove your point.

Close-minded people come in all political stripes. So, this advice could cut both ways.

The difference is that one side immediately resorts to name-calling and denigrating condescence.

WE all know who they are.

I watched the performance of ‘The Mikado’ a couple of years ago, by a British company. They made several changes to the lyrics of Lord High Executioner’s song. That song basically lists all the people whom the Lord High Executioner would like to execute.

In that song, the opera companies introduce references to current news, pet peeves of the country etc. Thus, one line in the song (as to whom he would like to execute) was

Australians of all kind.

That got a big laugh. Another line that got a big laugh was

Bishops who don’t believe in God and chief constables who do.

Just before that, a couple of Church of England bishops had made statements questioning the physical resurrection of Jesus (dead body getting up and walking), virgin birth etc. There was also some news about a Chief Constable, I am not sure exactly what.

That is why they put that line there, and that is why it got such a big laugh.

They aren't banning abortion. If you read the article, you would see that. By declaring the fetus a human being they are saying that any action to kill it is murder. Even discussing an abortion would be conspiracy to commit murder. They know they can't ban abortion so they are doing an end run.

Where's the fun in that. I say let them pass it. Once people realize how onerous it is, those who haven't already left the state will. The remaining ten people can do as they choose.

Is he? Were did you hear that?

Since the position of Moderator is a three year term and Phipps served from 1997 to 2000, I would think that those that are trying to get rid of him are a tad bit behind the times.

If they don't know the consequences of such a decision, then they deserve a state full of unwanted children. They already have their quota of morons.
