Privatizing an essential utility (electricity) is like taxing air and water - wringing profit from they who can least afford it. Sell excess power for profit across the border and subsidize the people who paid for its construction

The governments were sucking money out of hydro long before it was privatised. Water rights and GST.

Probably a carbon tax too if your electricity is made by coal or NG generators.

"We want to make sure it's a level playing field so that companies that play by the rules aren't unfairly hindered by competing with those that don't," said the insider.

You can readily understand the minds of these azzholes. Level playing fields were assembled mandated and enacted thirty years ago and the wealth gap is worse than at any any time in recorded history, thanks to the levelers. What they really want is a cut on your farm fresh eggs and poultry and pork your honey your berries and they intend to stamp out barter. If you exchange they want a cut if you flea market a set of old tires they want a pound they think they are entitled to. fokum Government has long been tax collectors for banks.

...and adding crazy numbers to the debt by erecting habitually over-budget nuclear power plants with limited life expectency ... and deferring maintenance on plant ... and selling power at cut rate in the United States. Government isn't known for wisdom - yet expect to be trusted.

Canada needs a Tea Party of some sorts... less frigging Government.. more about people's rights and freedoms.

Yeah, look at how successful the teabaggers have been at reducing the size of the American government!

When you want a job done right, give it to somebody with an unbroken record of failure.

And yet they will accept receipts to fancy restaurants and parking that has nothing to do with the business.

What planet are you on?

(allowable part only)
The maximum amount you can claim for food, beverages, and entertainment expenses is 50% of either the amount you incur or an amount that is reasonable in the circumstances, whichever is less.

These limits also apply to the cost of your meals when you travel or go to a convention, conference, or similar event. However, special rules can affect your claim for meals in these cases. For more information, see Line 9200 - Travel and Convention expenses.

These limits do not apply if any of the following apply:

Your business regularly provides food, beverages, or entertainment to customers for compensation (for example, a restaurant, hotel, or motel).
You bill your client or customer for the meal and entertainment costs, and you show these costs on the bill.
You include the amount of the meal and entertainment expenses in an employee's income or would include them if the employee did not work at a remote or special work location. In addition, the amount cannot be paid or payable for a conference, convention, seminar, or similar event and the special work location must be at least 30 kilometers from the closest urban centre with a population of 40,000 or more. For more information about urban centres, see Statistics Canada data on Population and dwelling counts, for urban areas.
you incur meal and entertainment expenses for a Christmas party or similar event, and you invite all your employees from a particular location (note that you are limited to six of these events each year);
You incur meal and entertainment expenses for a fund-raising event that was mainly for the benefit of a registered charity.
you provide meals to an employee housed at a temporary work camp constructed or installed specifically to provide meals and accommodation to employees working at a construction site (note that the employee cannot be expected to return home daily

I agree they do a fine job, but I'm skeptical that aren't some that fall through the cracks.

That's why they don't accepts receipts made out to "cash" as you put it.

Do you buy contraband cigarettes?

Yes that's a good one.

The Ont Libs don't want people to quit smoking, just to pay taxes to the government through the 'legit' purchase of smokes...........
