Northern Ontario,
This is what going green gets you.....

Expect to pay more in the future...

Ontario electricity consumers are being zapped by unnecessarily high green energy costs that could be worth billions of dollars and lousy service from Hydro One, which is currently being privatized, says auditor general Bonnie Lysyk.
In 14 value-for-money audits for her 773-page annual report delivered Wednesday at Queen’s Park, Lysyk took aim at the electricity sector on the eve of Energy Minister Bob Chiarelli’s announcement on next steps for the province’s aging nuclear reactors.
She also highlighted problems with everything from Ontario’s 47 children’s aid societies — including questionable executive expenses — community care access centres, and school buses to the bungled SAMS social assistance computer system and the lack of a plan for dealing with contaminated waste.
But much of her scorn was reserved for the energy ministry, which is overseeing the sell-off of Hydro One, the provincial electricity transmitter.

“Hydro One’s customers have a power system for which reliability appears to be worsening while costs are increasing,” said Lysyk, echoing Ed Clark, Premier Kathleen Wynne’s privatization czar, who has argued Hydro One can and should be a much more professionally run company.

“Customers are experiencing more frequent power outages, mostly because assets aren’t being fully maintained, aging equipment isn’t being consistently replaced and trees near power lines aren’t being trimmed often enough to prevent outages,” she said, lamenting that this will be her final audit of the company since it will no longer fall under her purview once it is private.

At the same time, Ontario’s controversial push to promote wind and solar energy is proving more costly than it needs to be, and energy conservation is proving unnecessarily expensive because the province has a surplus of electricity.

Lysyk estimated consumers could end up paying $9.2 billion more for renewable energy over 20-year contracts issued under the Green Energy Act with guaranteed prices set at double the U.S. market price for wind and at 3.5 times the going rate for solar last year.

The only thing that's going to save Hydro One is a way-back machine set prior to 1974 - when it went from being the Hydro Electric Power Commission of Ontario to the Crown corporation: Ontario Hydro.

Take heart: Deregulation made it possible for Hydro Quebec to move in....

I no longer doubt the stupidity of the electorate but I think Kathy will lose the next election herself. She has to be the single worst premier in the history of Ontario (or any province for that matter).

I wish I could be sure of that! The electorate knew that McGuinty was a liar and Wynne was cut from the same cloth. Still they elected her with a big majority.
If they were that stupid what's to smarten them up?
The Liberals have done even more damage to Ontario than Bob Rae and who would have thought that was even possible?

If we could somehow get the GTA to break off from the Province the rest of Ontario might have a chance of survival. It is the urbanization that has put unsustainable and unrealistic demands on the Province.
Toronto and area should be designated homeless, immigrant and refugee haven, put a wall around it and let the rest of us do something constructive.

When we go to the Six Nations Reservation we see a thriving, bustling community with all the amenities of a healthy society. It pains me that the Province is dogging them constantly for tax on their cigarette industry which is where their prosperity came from.
What hypocrisy is this from the Government that bans everything to do with smoking but wants to cash in on it at the same time?
Six Nations have a salable commodity and they cashed in on it. Good for them! The Government of Ontario has done everything in its power to quash its salable commodities, driving industry out of Province and creating unemployment and a debt larger than the Federal Government and all the other Provinces put together.

Don't forget who deregulated then broke Hydro into five bureaucracies (exactly the opposite to what he did to save municipalities costs) - then left the door open for the greedier crooks. Rae? Give me a break!

Well, here in BC we did have Glen Cluck. Drove hundreds of families and businesses out of BC, caused hundreds on hundreds of job losses and wage drops, doubled the provincial debt, created a hugely inefficient and costly government, created series of scandals, etc.

Northern Ontario,
Not to forget, with this government we also have a clean energy charge
On my $75. flat rate amount, I'm paying on my energy consumption a $9.50 clean energy fee which is including HST.
How much are y'all paying?

That is adding insult to injury Paying extra because the solar panel and windmill boondoggle then an energy fee on top

Regular maintenance costs is what we spend on hydro. The local hydro provider pays us for getting power from us. hehe

The extras are crazy enough. Doubling the cost of power to deliver it is outright theft

Northern Ontario,
I'll check it out on my end to see if I have better luck...

Dont log in right away....first check if you're eligible according to your income
I put in a few figures after I was rejected and it seem like the cut-off income after taxes for one or two people in a household is $29,000.

Then you get to log in.................
