It's not that they were all alive at once but that much life to have lived within that short time is such an impossibility that it shatters any notion of the age of the earth being 6000years old.

For example. To make 1 ft of coal it takes 20feet of dead forest compressed. Nearly the same goes for limestone formation in either solution or compression. Limestone can be compressed even further into marble etc etc etc.

The amount of life to create such strata is mind bogglingly vast.

Okay... so how long did 'creation' take? What was a 'day' for God? Where does the Bible date the earth at only 6000 yrs exactly? (asks the devil's advocate, or in this case, the Bible's... lol)

Maybe some day. Maybe. Onwards and upwards!

Giving it more thought, I don't know that humanity could tolerate it being completely and totally quantified, even if science could pull it off. We already get squeamish when it comes to messing with genetics.

So you are saying God took his time and modified things as he went? That kinda sounds a lot like evolution to me.

That's true. Though presumably in the future, one would hope that enlightenment follows from new discovery. Though, there will always be deniers.:angry3:

God has nothing to do with evolution. At least it is never explicitly said to be so. I guess some people believe that is implicit in the bible, because they don't deny science based on allegory.

*shrugs* I've never understood why people who believe in creation can't wrap their heads around it having taken place via the physical proof we have. The Bible isn't exactly precise about it all. But, like I said, I view creation as a story, not a literal history.

Personally I'm part of the panspermia crowd that says life came from elsewhere in the universe.

Oh. it is,but my point is that quantification MAY be moving faster than we can handle
( I'm thinking of thalidomide , ddt, flourocarbons, etc at the moment)

Personally I think turning every last science thread on the board into a chance to bash religion is pathetic, but, if someone's going to carry on with it, I'm going to point out the flaws. lol.

whoever said God created perfection?

I think it's a categorical syllogism.

God is a perfect being.
God created us in his image, in his likeness.
Therefore we must be perfect.

Not saying that's right, but I think that's at least similar to what it stems from.

I kinda like logic and truth though but I guess that is just me.

Oh no doubt. By all means have at er. I was kind of hoping it wouldn't have to boil down to that common denominator, but alas, us humans are creatures of habit...
