This is kinda the deal. . .

Here in Maryland, we have a demographic situation not unlike what y'all describe. The north, south, east, and west are all conservative, Republican, frequently slave-state types. The center, the Washington-Baltimore corridor, is educated, liberal, and more wealthy. It's also populous enough the Maryland Congressional delegation is seven Democrats, one Republican in the House, and two Democratic senators. The state government is about 2/3 Democratic. But the governor, currently in his second term, is Republican. He made it by focussing on business, the economy, taxes, and crime. He also made it by staying the hell away from MAGAhat culture-war issues.

Just a comparison, for whatever it may be worth.

You have about 15% of Conservatives who are super racist but wealthy. They're the ones holding back the party. Otherwise this wouldn't even be a controversial decision.

The fact that they are rejecting a fiscal conservative just goes to show how far off the path these nutbars have strayed because all they care about is punishing the Liberals lol
The Liberals are currently punishing much of Canada outside of their voter base of Ottawa/Toronto/Montreal/Vancouver, but that’s a different divisive story I guess, in the places where public transportation is more of a concept than a reality due to population density and geography, so they must be punished accordingly.

What percentage of Liberals are Super Racist but Wealthy (?) if you’re comparing apples to apples?

It's worth a lot. In Canada we have a lot of politicians who see stirring the emotional pot as their path to office, and precious few willing to identify and work to correct issues that are important to a lot of voters. Two big examples are environmental responisibilty and inequality both social and economic. Just bring either of these into a conversation and the polarity sets in.

They have the most gender balanced caucus ever . Of course the black face wearing leader hasn’t a racist bone in his body like most Quebecers .

You are old enough to remember leaded gasoline , and it’s resulting air pollution . Our environmental standards have risen considerably in the last 50 years . There is no such thing as equality , one starts at the bottom , where you end is on you .

Our environmental standards have risen considerably in the last 50 years .
But has the rate of environmental abuse risen even faster ? Our mining industry is best described as a "prolific offender", blank cheques issued to the oil and gas sector as far as cleaning up the mess they leave in their wake, unsustainable logging practices, the list goes on.

There is no such thing as equality , one starts at the bottom , where you end is on you .
The deck is stacked against low income earners.

Maybe we should just send people straight from high school into the CEO chair . That way everyone can be a no income earner .
I see you are a glass half empty kind of guy . Our forestry practices are mostly sustainable , we are cutting third growth in most cases . Try opening a mine and jump through the environmental hoops .

On Sunday morning, at 11 a.m., Patrick Brown will become the fifth candidate to enter the Conservative leadership race. Brown will join perceived front runner MP Pierre Poilievre, former Quebec Premier and PC Party leader Jean Charest, MP Leslyn Lewis and Ontario MPP Roman Baber in the hunt for the top Conservative job.

Brown, who currently serves as Mayor of Brampton, Ontario’s fourth largest city, had previously served as a federal MP from 2006 until 2015 when he took over as leader of Ontario’s Progressive Conservative Party. Brown served as opposition leader in Ontario for roughly two and a half years before resigning.

He stepped down in the wake of a CTV report claiming that while he was an MP he had been inappropriately intimate with a woman under the age of 18. Brown always maintained that the story was incorrect and a smear upon his reputation.

That story was later deemed to be false. On Tuesday, CTV issued a statement that “Key details provided to CTV for the story were factually incorrect.” The network also expressed regret for running the story.

After stepping down as PC Party leader in Ontario, Brown ran to be mayor of Brampton and won.

“Patrick runs on ambition” said one longtime associate when asked why he was leaving his seemingly comfortable gig in Brampton to take on the Conservative leadership.

Several others are exploring a possible run for the Conservative leadership including Conservative MP Scott Aitchison and Joel Etienne, a one time candidate who has the backing of some factions of the social conservative wing of the party.

Access to post-secondary education is most definitely based on financial ability. Idealogically, access to post secondary education should be governed by aptitude and ability, not how think daddy's wallet is. Education is our future, it would be nice to be able to think that future decisions would be made by those best qualified to make them. I'm thinking a hugely expanded scholarship program for those who can't meet financial thresholds.
Our forestry practices are mostly sustainable , we are cutting third growth in most cases . Try opening a mine and jump through the environmental hoops .
Those forestry numbers are easily spun by producers and harvesters, much of them based on projections that stretch decades into the future. The current bottom line says we are harvesting at a faster rate than the forest is being replenished. Raw log exports continue to climb as jobs in the value-added forestry products sector continue to drop. The mining industry is a microcosm of our overall approach to environmentalism, "We just can't afford to do things properly".

Ya, unfortunately, a lot of politics is "emotional" - people need to get the emotion out of their choices and think things through i.e. do the research and investigate before making a decision. Emotional decisions are almost always wrong.

Man you are out of touch with today’s practices , a mining company can no longer afford not to do things properly . Any new project takes five years or so just to clear regulatory hurdles .There is no comparison between today and 50 years ago .
As for education I agree it should be less expensive , but there are any number of scholarships and bursaries available to graduating students and many low income people take advantage of them . Many immigrants working in menial jobs are able to put their children through school and they are successful engineers , accountants etc.
Many of the progeny of the fat wallets waste their time on useless degrees like Woman’s studies , etc. Where there is one job available per 50 graduates . Who cares if those rich dollars are feeding the system ?
