Thats not a pipeline union, try operating engineers or their nemesis rat union CLAC.The paperworkers couldnt save their members from the softwood fiasco so they should not even be prying in to a trade they have no clue about.

I was at the oilsands and right next to suncors pond when the birds all landed and I also lived with a geoligist who worked at cnrl where they use lasers to frighten away birds and they didnt have a single bird death that day.

Not wrong at all. Hey look, a squirrel!

Where can I buy pro-biotic free yogurt?

SQUIRREL!

C'mon pet. Connect some of the dots for me so I don't have to run around like a free range chicken with his head lopped off.

I usually side with greenies, but I agree that a lot of this conjecture (about the species) is based on anecdotal talk. We need some affirmative studies instead of the l33t speak.

It's fall agan and the bird are flocking grouping together...soon they will land on whatever open water happens to be in view along their journey and birds will indeed die once again. Either the ponds kill them or the hundreds of thousands of hunters will.

What came first? The free range egg or the free range chicken and how do you make yogurt without pro-biotics?

How does a pipeline have any direct negative affect on any wildlife? For environmental agencies to oppose it based on what might happen is folly and could also be an argument for not allowing aircraft to fly, trains to leave the station Cars to stay off the roads and all other pipelines to shut down.
A lot less dangerous to the environment than tankers currently crossing our oceans but hey logic has no place in greenie thinking.
I'd love to see the thing stopped as well, for all of the reasons previously mentioned OTHER than environmental ones.
The very obvious solution to all of our evironmental issues other than natural disasters is to iradicate man from the planet completely but instead we have these idiotic agencies attaching priorities to various aspects of our envrionment that suit their agendas and
conveniently give them a cause-celebre to fill their meaningless little lives.
Religious zealotry used to fill that niche.

Ethical oil?

Apparently not..

Oil is 'unethical', but the continued use of the oil is not unethical?

Apparently not..

And then there is the perversion of Canadian policy in the service of this development. Canada has not only become one of the world's great sources of carbon – and thus of climate change. Our Conservative government has become one of the principal obstacles to co-ordinated global action to address climate change.

So what is to be done? Let's begin with what is not to be done: That pipeline should not be built.

I suppose that one of the answers is that the production of oil should be highly restricted. We could start by eliminating the transfer of oil to Ottawa as a move to further curb Canada's already miniscule greenhouse gas emissions... At very least, we will succeed in getting the politicians in eating a little crow.

And then we need to have a very large conversation with our energy industry in this country – in the first instance, with the goal of reminding them that they are in this country.

I'd love to be part of that conversation... I see it including a recognition to all of the do-gooders that money talks and bullsh*t walks.

.. If you don't want the oil sands because it offends your fantasies about Utopia, that's fine, but pull all of that GDP off of the table and see what happens to your cherished "free healthcare" and bloated social entitlements... Hell, while we're at it, we might as well crush the mining, forestry and fisheries sector too as they add just as much, if not more, damage to ole Mother Gaia.

Sure, we'd transform ourselves into a third world nation overnight, but think of the satisfaction we'd have in being able to wag our collective fingers at the rest of the world with the self-serving opinion that we are somehow superior to all.

Law Aides Oilsands Foes

CONSERVATIONISTS ON BOTH sides of the border are using an obscure American trade law normally used against whalers to pressure Canada over its management of the entire oilsands industry.

The push comes as protesters continue to fight a pipeline that would bring more oilsands crude from Alberta into the United States. A coalition of American and Canadian environmental groups has filed an application under what’s known as the Pelly amendment, which empowers the U.S. president to impose trade sanctions against any country weakening international efforts to conserve endangered species — in this case woodland caribou, whooping cranes and dozens of other species of migratory birds.

I wonder what the statute of limitations is on revisiting the Pelly Amendment as it applies to the homes/residences of the enviro collation members?.. Clearly, they have irreparably damaged the (former) migratory route of some species by ignorantly building their home on these lands.

Perhaps we can annex their property and return it to nature. They can all live in harmony living off the land, in and amongst the wee critters.

Where's PETA on all this?

Don't they care about the wholesale slaughter of these cute, innocent pro-biotics?

PETA is easy to hose over. Just use words from a grade 6 or higher vocabulary and you can confuse the hell out of them.

All resource products should be refined or produced into product in Canada. It should
now be a Canada jobs first policy and everyone else second, America wants to do it to
us so we need to protect our jobs first.

Correct me if I am wrong but isn't Canada manufacturing all of the pipe?

Petros?

Yup through a clever shell game. The same shell game that is employing Italians and Brits to build the components of the upgraders in Pt Arthur.

Seems America is getting the short end of the stick to me.

Processing is the short end? Why are some forum members getting all upset if we are getting the short end?

To me... it doesn't matter, it isn't like I would get anything from it if the Americans were doing everything.

We don't have the capacity or the water. This oil goes on the open market for export (mainly China) and will not be gasoline for Americans.

Who sets that rule? Meaning who said "All oil processed from the Canadian tar sands will be for export only. No Americans will get gas."

Open market means open market.

I wasn't aware that PETA was planning on producing brochures that are like the pop-up books for kids.
If we can get Discovery to show live births, I'm sure PETA would try to ban sex.
