I think Williams wanted the best medical treatment. He saw Florida as the place to get it and it was his choice though a lot of people won't agree with him.

Right on- perhaps a person's medical decisions are his own business.

My Mom had this very operation about 20 years ago in Toronto, she waited three weeks for the procedure and was home in 5 days. She was told by the doctors it wasn't needed for 12 months.

Not sure what Danny has done to the health care in NFLD but he had better fix it if he can't get that simple procedure done on the rock.

I'm not sure that when it comes to operations one procedure "fits" all. Maybe your Mum was in much better (or worse) condition to start with than Danny. Not that I can possibly see how Danny's operation is anyone else's business.

I can't stand Danny Williams....I think he is a loud-mouthed trouble-maker with all the positive attributes of a brown shirt,

Nonetheless I would certainly agree that Mr. Williams has every right in the world to seek treatment for a serious health problem anywhere he sees fit.

As I think every Canadian shoul;d have the right to seek treatment at a private clinic anywhere in the world.

Including in Canada.........

And that, as my old man used to say, is where the bear crapped in the buckwheat.

While you're certainly entitled to your opinion Colpy, here's my counter.

Mr. Williams comes across as a loud mouth to some (not all) outside the province of NL. Fact is he gets things done just like Joe Pesci. He is still immensely popular in his own province and his supporters on mainland Canada are strong as well, the Globe and Mail and yourself notwithstanding. To call him a brownshirt is a bit offensive in my opinion. Right up there with Danny Chavez. Didn't he try to stop Quebec from taking over NB Power? Yes, he tried to protect you and your fellow citizens from the predatory manoevers of the Quebec government on your power system. Oh well, the deal is done now. Talk to me in ten years and let me know how that deal worked out for ya. And I don't want to hear "Danny was right" 'cause that would be like closing the barn door after the horses have left the building.

I agree with you on his decision to have heart surgery in Florida. He has the cash, he had his doctor's advice, he had the condo in Sarasota. It was a no brainer. Canadians would have complained no matter what decision he made. Fact is no matter what this man does there will always be someone who vehemently shoots him down. It's quite refreshing to see an honest politician who tells it like it is. I know that goes against the grain when you compare his approach to the slick, greasy, backstabbing system we find in Ottawa or some provincial governments.

Ce la vie buddy....pass the Screech.

Okay, I'll back off on the "brown shirt" comment.....very slightly.

Danny Williams is a successful Canadian politician........in other words a liar, a hypocrite, and a control freak.

Avro, in his usual wisdom responded to my post thus:

"Maybe you should get a better job then."

Avro, I am retired. My pension and medical plan cover a whole lot, that some Canadians, unfortunately do not enjoy.

Not good enough. Retract the comment completely and apologize to Danny Williams. Better yet, get down on your knees and beg him for forgiveness. Offer to support him in the next election. It's the least you can do to redeem yourself.

Your second sentence should read: Danny Williams is a great politician....in other words he's honest, a straight shooter and a compassionate man.

C'mon Colpy, man up and admit Atlantic Canada has never seen a politician with such spunk, audacity and in-your-face attitude. He empowers Newfoundlanders and inspires a large group of people across the country to stand up for whats right. Not that they needed empowerment to begin with. He just gives them a reason to hope for a better tomorrow, as hokey as that sounds.

Maybe he is looking for a new bride in BC. Heard today that he is "home alone" as he and his wife have parted company. He should be able to negotiate a good settlement in his favour, he has done a very good job for the province.

Let's look at the facts regard NF and L. The total population of the province hardly makes up a medium sized US or Canadian city. What are the chances or finding a first rate surgeon? Almost certainly Mr. Williams would have had to go out of province in order to have his operation. It might as well be the US, which has a system that is geared to the wealthy.

Kind of a bleak outlook for any heart patient in NF and L.

I guess what we should all take into consideration, Danny Boy made the Health Care system in his own province, but not up to the standard that is available in other provinces. I think he has the right to the care that he can afford and from what we are told out west that he can afford the best. Go for it, Danny Boy!

Danny Williams is now American at Heart ... I imagine he'll be retiring there..Since home is where the heart is ..( Booo Bad jk) ..Hope it doesn't turn out to be an expensive choice in the long run ...I don't thinks it's wise to play politics with health Care ..

I like to think we're a country that cares about it ppl
