It's not their fault in the sense that they all employ deceptive practices to reap a large profit. Certainly, if there is very little competition in that market or if the market has very large barriers to entry, then they can get away with obscene profits. But, yes, in the strictest sense - if they provide a service or product that lends itself to an unreasonably large profit, it means that the true value of that particular good or service is not being produced for consumers.

This leads to the natural repercussion of a widening gap of wealth distribution. No one is saying that there should be a small or medium sized gap. But when you have no consumers left to buy products or services, the whole system collapses.

It depends on the industry and the product.

We would have to start with services that begin at obscene markups - like at 90% or so - and of course, we would have to look at the unit cost of that product/service as well.

I don't know really what to say... You are applying a subjective analysis of what profit levels are acceptable, nor are you recognizing the risk factors or the motivation for people to invest, build, etc.

A reasonable tax rate will not have any negative effect on the business. Certainly if the profit margin covers that tax rate, there would be no effect at all.

This comment deserves special attention:

You do understand that via the 3 levels of taxation (Fed, prov and muni), gvt (ie society) is a substantial partner in your business. That said, by limiting the profit capability of corps and individuals, you limit the tax revenues for everyone.

Occupy Bay St.!

jk

Edit: I just googled "Occupy Bay St." and it looks like they'll be a Canadian flavored movement that is similiar. I didn't read the links but there were a few of them.

Actually, Eagle, it was a Canadian idea from the very beginning.

Anti-Wall Street protests take off thanks to a Canadian idea - The Globe and Mail

"Several thousand kilometres from the heart of the growing anti-Wall Street protests in New York, Kalle Lasn says he is astounded that an idea he and a few others hatched in Vancouver is now expanding across North America and beyond.

“Of course, we had some hopes and dreams, but we had no idea it would turn into a movement in the United States, then into Canada, and become global,” said Mr. Lasn, co-editor of the influential, Vancouver-based, anti-consumer publication Adbusters, which first called for a people’s occupation of Wall Street."

Multimillionaire Tim Robbins shares angst with protesters

As an aside:

You gotta love all these rich celebrities who do absolutely nothing to create jobs pointing their fingers at folks that do.
Of America's 131 million non-farm employees, almost eight million or six percent work in the financial services industry. By contrast, about 400,000 people work in the arts and spectator sports, or three tenths of one percent.
Yet these folks who employ so few and are amongst the wealthiest in our nation call corporations that employ millions crooks.

Nonsense. I am sure Tim and other actors like him hire illegal alien maids, cooks, gardeners and chaufers to help them handle the daily stress of their dialy life. Of course, if they hired legal workers it would cost them a little bit more ...

Same reason these ponytailers won't go to 1600. Ignore the obvious because the truth hurts.

Sure, share the protests, but give your hipster uniony heads a shake. :p

I'm not surprised. I was watching a clip on the protests and they happened to interview a homeless person. He basically said.

"All these people will be gone soon. All of them. The first cold wind that blows down this street will send them all home."

When asked what he was doing there he said with a laugh...

"Right now this is a good place to sleep without being arrested."

Guys like Tim Robbins protesting in front of the Whitehouse now? No way.

I am sure Tim has all his money in a local bank and in a simple savings account. I wouldn't think Tim would ever have invested his money in any Funds, Bonds, Stocks, or Markets. Yeah right.

Reminds me of U2 moving their business offshore to save taxes, while Bono berates governments for not doing what he thinks they should do to eradicate poverty.

Yep. The cold will frighten the tender folk away. No loss.

As for Timmy and that slothful Moore, until they admit to their legions of basement followers that the problem is not just the 'bad' side of the government (that is after all, one of the current popular complaints other than anyone with lottsa money is evil), they remain with the trollish originators and backers of the misguided movement.

Mind you, then they have to ask the MSM 'pretty please' to tell the honest truth and take your woes to 1600, even though the boy king currently resides there.

Now it looks like we're gonna have a good-faith clean-up and hosing-down with the demand to respect some sort of 'regulations', be they old or new.

Looks like the first boss level is approaching.

Protesters suspicious of plan to clean up NYC park

NEW YORK (AP) -- The Wall Street protesters are planning a demonstration for an hour before they're supposed to leave a lower Manhattan park so it can be cleaned.

Protest spokesman Patrick Bruner sent an email to supporters Thursday asking them to join the protest at Zuccotti Park at 6 a.m. Friday.

That's an hour before the park's owner plans to begin cleaning it, and an influx of demonstrators could set up a showdown with police.
Brookfield Properties told protesters that it will begin enforcing regulations that prohibit everything from lying down on benches to storing personal property on the ground.

Protesters say they believe the effort is an attempt to end their nearly monthlong encampment.

In Boston this crowd mobbed a hospital cafeteria when the rain started last night. Imagine having to deal with that stench while trying to eat?

Off the radio....

Michael Moore----- worth $45 MILLION

Tim Robbins----- worth $50 MILLION

Clearly not part of the 99%

Honestly... I'd say don't clean it at all. The only reason why they haven't been tossed is because it is not a NYC Park. It is managed privately.

Notice one thing about the protesters, they are not going around burning and destroying the cities like others have done over trivia matters. (no the Arab Spring is not trivia.)

Did it ever occur to you that the wealthy get the tax breaks because they pay the taxes? The poor already(rightfully) pay little or no taxes so how could they possibly qualify for a tax break?
