The fact that we are discussing here means nothing. It only means that it is popular here, that Obama haters brought it up here, nothing else. To public at large, it is a non issue. If not, try running the 2012 presidential campaign on this issue.

I started the thread and I don't hate Obama. I just don't worship your Messiah.

He is your god is he not?

Of course he is. That is why you run to defend him at every point. You worship your new King!

Yet the libs keep coming back to defend the bow. It must be more important to them than they are letting on.

Well IMO a few ( including yourself ) are making it a Lib / Con issue..

It is more of a respect and etiquette in my view that is only proper..

I defend the bow as much as I defend the handshake and the kiss.. But only in their proper place and time..

Our PM is in India right now...

I don't see anybody freaking out about this....

Fact is, only small minded bigots who have no understanding of others cultures would react negatively to our nations representative taking part in others peoples traditions.

Here's a thought, how about taking on REAL issues.

Exactly Avro, that is how Indians greet each other. Also you will notice that his head is covered, that is also part of tradition. But when an Indian PM or an Indian dignitary comes to Canada or USA, you won’t see him bow like that, he will shake hands. It is all part of respecting the customs of the country.

Bowing, wearing pillbox hats, shaking hands, hi5ing, patting each other's backsides, etc. are all the same thing. You'd rather they spit in each other's faces and start shooting?

Hell yeah!

I like the old Viking way of starting negotiations...

"The only thing we need to discuss is is how you are going to die and where you blood were fertilize our fields... Your farms will become ours...your families will be sold...and your heads will adorn our feasting halls. Our swords and spears need to be wet with your blood so what is the point of the talks!"

Imagine if Obama had done this....

....would have been the end of time and space.

Oh, there definitely would have been calls for his impeachment. If he did this in say 2011 and Republicans control the House at that time, they will definitely start impeachment proceedings against him.

Incidentally, it is customary in India (and in many Asian countries) to give flowers to a man when he is being honoured. It could be a garland of flowers (like you see here) or it could be the bouquet of flowers. Something we don’t do here.

Indeed, here if somebody gives flowers to a conservative man, he may well take offense; he may think it implies that he is gay. But here again, it is a question of respecting traditions of another country, another culture.

When one realizes that they have failed to win the argument about something they thought was serious because of political ideology or partisan BS they sidestep and turn it into a joke like that's what is was all along.

Sad.

What is there to argue?

It was silly to bow like an peasant. He is the President of the United States and he was bowing like a Japanese school girl.

I'll make jokes wherever I want. I'm not a high strung self loather like you are.

It wasn’t a joke, though — it was a sincere condemnation of your head of State for being civil.

Apparently manners and EagleSmack are mutually exclusive.

The joke...I believe he was saying was my "Viking Negotiations" post...where I made lite of greetings.

Oh yes...so sincere and deeply condemning.

If Obama wants to conduct himself as an inferior instead of the President...so be it.

It was respectful to bow as it respectful of the Japanese to shake hands in a greeting...do you think the Japanese care? The president isn't some sort of God you know....

High strung self loather?

What did you do, copy a post from Colpy?

Well I'm not an overly sensitive bigot like you then.

Grow up.
