The US National Public Radio has caused hell to freeze over with its firing of Juan Williams for his statements about how he feels when boarding a plane with someone who is a visible Muslim. How has it acheived this? It's gotten Bill O'Reilly, and Whoopi Goldberg, on the heels of their very public disagreement, to agree that the action taken by the radio station is, above all else, wrong, and amounts to censorship.

Bill O'Reilly - Juan Williams NPR | Whoopi Goldberg | Video | Mediaite

I can't find a clip of the View's roundtable on the subject, but, google away if you're curious.

Wrong move. He shouldn't have been fired. He should have been ridiculed. Mind you, how much does an ignorant statement like his differ from that of Rick Sanchez? Maybe both should have kept their jobs, but be under public scrutiny. I'm sure Stewart and Colbert would love having more material.

Juan Williams is one of those extremely rare species: an honest Democrat. Or to a lesser degree, an honest liberal.

And what he got for his honesty? Getting his a$$ kicked.

He should have said lies about Christians (which would have been praised by the jerks who fired him as truth) and he would still have a job.

I hope that FOX hires him and gives him an opportunity to be honest, which the tax-payer-funded freeloaders at NPR refused to give him.

American Thinker Blog: What did Juan Williams say to get him fired from NPR?

They said as much on the View this morning.... had he slammed 'the right', gone on about being nervous about Tea Party members, or talked about how being around Catholic priests scares him, he'd have been applauded, not fired.

One can expect the usual invectives coming:

Juan Williams is a house-ni66er, an Uncle Tom and a whitey-wannabe.

You know the usual reserved for black Americans who don't toe the usual line by Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton.

Honesty doesn't excuse ignorance. Especially, as a reporter, he should know better than to make such a simplistic association. That said, maybe all it takes to solve the problem is some hate mail and education.

Northern Ontario,
I watched the view this morning and it's as Karrie said.....

YukonJack, if you had posted this, it would have been looked upon as another right wing rant.

One thing I have to say about Juan Williams and some will probably call me racist for it, but within one minute of listening to him speak for the first time his skin colour became invisible....but not so with Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton...

And when Mr. Williams spoke, It was as a political commentator and not as a reporter and I think NPR will be receiving a lot more hate mail than Mr. Williams...

It is also interesting that on the same day that NPR fired Mr. Williams....Liberal financier Georges Soros gave a substantial contribution $1.8 millions to NPR which may or may not have been an incentive to fire Mr. Williams?????

What "simplistic association"?? That Muslims have tried, and succeeded to blow things up?

There is nothing quite so convoluted as a Islam apologist trying to twist themselves away from the facts.......

Terror attacks on the west have been overwhelmingly commited by Muslims................so the "simplistic association" is just that.......it also happens to be completely factual.

So the guy gets turfed for speaking truth.

Welcome to the leftist idea of free speech.

Some liberals are for freedom of speech only if you agree with them8O

NPR is gonna go the way of "Air America"

CBC would end up the same way if not funded by tax dollars

Good. No one has a US constitutional right to work for an employer, so the claims of Williams having a First Amendment right are moot.

Compare Juan Williams' firing with Helen Thomas' firing. Both were apparently justified.

NPR is funded by the Govt - As such he represented an arm or publicly funded corporation - much in the same way that Fannie mae and mac are - And he did not have to appear or could have had the sense to deflect the question

He stereotyped all Muslims by his attitude. Now please do not call into question freedom of the press - he was aware of the policy - well aware of Fx and their rants and raves against minorities - aware of the rising Anti Muslim sentiment from the tea party and other carper baggers like fox news - Call Fox news is enough to make a reasonable person puke.

Regardless he made the decision to make a staement against and condemning all Muslims and yes he should have been fired.

GOP Ready to Probe NPR’s Federal Funding - HUMAN EVENTS

Even though Helen Thomas had a definite left wing bias and I rarely agreed with her she had a right to her opinion and a right to voice it
And the News Org had the right to terminate her because of her known but also public Anti Semiticism.

I fear for your sanity if you can not tell the difference between the unadulterated hatred spewed unapologetically by Helen Thomas and the simple expression of fear expressed by this gentleman.....especially when he also expressed his understanding that his fear was to some extent unfair to the vast majority of Muslims.

Then if he understood why did he spout such nonsense - Not to worry about my sanity - I am certifiable.

As to his fear - could he not have expressed this in a different manner - The answer is Yes - Did he - No - So he comes up with this i have a fear -

Well we all have fears - Part of living.

Hair splitting. Thomas was more guilty than Williams?
