lol... it's starting to become very clear who's buying into bias, being dishonest, and stuck in a 'media correct' mode of criticism.

Um, has anyone given any thought to whether pedo- and ephebophilia are restricted to North America or is it worldwide? I'm asking because maybe is is a conjunctive issue and our culture ( and perhaps more influences) has something to do with it, too. What is the incidence of these traits in other continents? Maybe its simply a cultural issue and the RCC is simply the handy vehicle for these behaviors.
From what I have been reading, it is far more of a problem in North America than in other areas.

Then maybe it is mostly a cultural phenomenon and the RCC priesthood thing is just a matter of convenience.
quite a few links I found pointed to the problem of paedophilia in the protestant church being even higher than that of Catholicism. Since it's kind of beside the point I didn't link any, but, run a search and see what you turn up.

That it's not a US or NA phenomenon. That celibacy should be debated.

yet, the Protestant Churches also seem to be having the same problem as per the link that Annag supplied..... yet they don't encourage celibacy.
Is that a problem? Not to sound obtuse, but, does a church 'have' to change the way it does things so that more people like it, or should it be free to drive itself into oblivion?
Celibacy doesn't cause paedophilia or any other form of sexual abuse, from any of the links or studies I've been able to find. What it DOES seem to cause, is a shrinking clergy, and thus trouble among its ranks. So... whose issue is that? If it wants to carry on choking itself out... why do people outside of it really care?
