I personally think it should be a federal decision (perhaps a global one) considering the scope and breadth of the project, but Harper has now set up environmental assessments to be a choice between provincial or federal responsibility.

If it's a provincial decision and the NDP win the next election - don't expect this pipeline to go through.

Northern Gateway pipeline puts British Columbia at oil spill risk: New Democrats

I agree first and foremost it's a Federal and Provincial decision, but the Feds and Province could choose to let the local government have the final say if they wanted to. Seeing that they're the most effected, it woudl make sense to let them have the final say once the Feds and Province agree to it.

As a philosophic favor Alberta's options should include limiting or banning the extra pollution and environmental rape coming from BC regarding shipping of lumber as well as goods traffic from the Port of Vancouver, plus shutting off the pipeline that delivers oil to BC. They can buy or sell it all from/to the US.

Then the NDP and Tides could sit back and bask in their totally green agenda. The natives would not be restless anymore, at least until reality hit.

Yes, it is true that the pipeline is travelling through some dangerous spots.

What her review revealed is that the reports that favour gung ho oil
development in general, and the Northern Gateway pipeline in particular,
"present a biased narrative where industry benefits are falsely estimated while
economic, social and environmental costs are ignored."

Ahhh she wants a refinery in Prince Rupert.

Northern Gateway pipeline opposed by 50% in B.C

Opposition to Enbridge's proposed $5.5-billion Northern Gateway pipeline is growing and has topped 50% in British Columbia, according to an independent survey released Thursday.

Opposition to the project was 52% among 1,069 adults in a random telephone survey conducted on April 11 - up from 46% in January and 45% in December, according to the Forum Research Inc. poll.

Support for a law banning oil tanker traffic on the B.C. coast also has risen to 46 % from 40 % in January and December.

"It looks like the federal government has not been that successful in swaying public opinion on Northern Gateway," said Forum Research Inc. president Lorne Bozinoff.

How misleading headlines can be - 1,069 respondents does not mean 50% of people in BC oppose the deal. It simply means that 52% of the people polled are opposed which in reality means they couldn't even get 1,069 people to say they are against the pipeline. Big Deal.

And this has what to do with pipelines?
Oil tankers and oil spills: the pipeline would supply tankers that will pass by this sacred place and threatens the existence of many unique coastal species including the Kermode Bear and a unique species of wolf in that area. But I know, money is more important than life.

I guess they can always move to AB or SK who need 300,000 people to work over the next decade.

That's a lot of people to work over. If you start now..................

I'd def. be in SK a year ago ifn I hadn't been such a slag and worked for 30 years in a UNIION environment, and got a pension.

Really, the money would be too good to pass up. Hard work never scared me. Smart work even better.

How long does one have to be a helper on of them drilly things before one can bugger off to the bush and set up one's own rig?? 3-5 years??

Just me and a mute helper. Damn, that would be nice. Good fishn too.

Sacred? Since when are you religious?
One does not have to be religious to recognize the sacredness of life. Native spirituality is not a religion, it is a way of life that honours all of creation. Capitalists only honour cash. That is the new religion. They are the ones willing to trade their mother for money, whatever their religious or spiritual persuasion.
