Actually I have.. and I think everyone is and should be able to do better. There is absolutely no reason for any able body man to be on welfare, period.
When I was 18 I left Canada, for Los Angeles.. Hopped on the bus in Messna, NY to LA. (Lived in Cornwall at the time, you know, home of the Cornwall Royals, Wayne Gretzky and Doug Gilmour and of course Ryan Gosling)
I lived on the streets doing odd jobs..
YOU should go live on Main St. downtown LA. Went too sleep under a Palm tree and woke up paralyzed in my left leg. Bitten by a black widow.
Yeah, good memories. I guess we all do stupid things when we are young.. that was my stupid thing, and what an education the streets can bring you. Standing in a line at the Union Gospel Mission for food.. that's right. Been there, done that, and said I would never return.
These are the forgotten people of America..
Started driving a taxi for Long Beach Yellow Cab, lived in my cab till I could afford an apartment..
By the way, I was also an illegal at that time. Didn't get married to a US citizen till later and got my US Citizenship..
Still pulled myself off the streets, got a US Drivers License and a got a job in less than 3 weeks, 10 days for antibiotics to work on the spider bite.
...and while driving taxi, I took this photo.. I call it "The American Dream"
Gated fence around the whole property and bars on all the windows..
A prisoner in your own home. God Bless America.
