How would I know. I don't know the dude. I am somewhat familiar with Zen, though. I really don't think any of the masters wanted to start a religion. In fact. I believe Jesus was completely against religion. It was Paul who screwed the whole thing up by starting a religion about Jesus. Most Christians don't have any idea what Jesus taught.
It's a fair bet that the Beatitudes were contained in the hypothetical Q source. As far as what Buddah would say about the term "born again"., seeing as how he had Hindu roots it would probably be a literal interpretation.

The other day I was walking in DC when a homeless guy asked if I could spare a dollar. I said "Tell you what, you can have half of whatever I got." Dug out my wallet, turned out I had $232 on me. So homeless guy got 120 (I gave him the extra 20). Didn't have to set up a worldwide pedophile ring to do it, didn't have to burn any women to death, murder babies and throw their bodies in the septic tank, or torture any little Indian kids.

Didn't have to praise Jeebus neither. Just seemed fair at the moment. I think St. Martin of Tours would agree.
You either have empathy or you do not. Clearly you do which does not surprise me.

I think the Buddha would smack you upside the head and say "all life is suffering, bitch."
Maybe so. Or he'd tell you about attachments and the 8 fold path. But that has nothing to do with the question. Nicodemas , a learned man of religion didn't know what born again meant either.

I'll save you a place by the fire. Should be a pretty nice place what with all the self-righteous child rapists in Heaven.
Same ole shallow thinking. Heaven, is a state of mind just like hell. Damn atheists interpret just as literally as theists. And then say how stupid the theists are.

In a laundromat not too far from the Alamo
Sits a girl who stole my records not so long ago
And she wishes, wants, and washes out them dirty clothes
And she shuts her eyes and dreams about a one-eyed Joe
A one-eyed Joe
Car parked on a dirty road
Heaven knows the load she pulls
Couldn't stand the strain
Her saddle's in the rain

Nicodemas, is that a nicotine patch? Being born again is when you throw out your last cigarette.

You're trying too hard to be witty. Relax. No one is amused.

yeah well ol john also wrote

:"Your Flag Decal Won't Get You Into Heaven Anymore"

While digesting Reader's Digest
In the back of a dirty book store,
A plastic flag, with gum on the back,
Fell out on the floor.
Well, I picked it up and I ran outside
Slapped it on my window shield,
And if I could see old Betsy Ross
I'd tell her how good I feel.

[Chorus:]
But your flag decal won't get you
Into Heaven any more.
They're already overcrowded
From your dirty little war.
Now Jesus don't like killin'
No matter what the reason's for,
And your flag decal won't get you
Into Heaven any more.

Well, I went to the bank this morning
And the cashier he said to me,
"If you join the Christmas club
We'll give you ten of them flags for free."
Well, I didn't mess around a bit
I took him up on what he said.
And I stuck them stickers all over my car
And one on my wife's forehead.

[Chorus]

Well, I got my window shield so filled
With flags I couldn't see.
So, I ran the car upside a curb
And right into a tree.
By the time they got a doctor down
I was already dead.
And I'll never understand why the man
Standing in the Pearly Gates said...

"But your flag decal won't get you
Into Heaven any more.
We're already overcrowded
From your dirty little war.
Now Jesus don't like killin'
No matter what the reason's for,
And your flag decal won't get you
Into Heaven any more."

doesn't seem to indicate a belief in rebirth
or early ending
:)
But, it works for all religions

You know, awhile back I was cutting up on a soccer thread you were on and you scolded me for it. Now the tables are turned. What's good for the goose is good for the gander. If you don't like discussing theology then stay the fukk out man.

To be born again means to become as a child, full of wonder; to see the world through new, innocent eyes.

"At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, 'Who, then, is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?' He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them. And he said: 'Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me." (Matthew 18:1-5 NIV)

How does one distinguish between child-like and childish, Cliffy?

Childish is believing in a 2000 year old book is a literal truth.

Irony has it according to Jesus we were to be the best we can be,
according to this we must be lesser than the divine yet we were
made in the image and likeness of God.
Jesus wanted people to think for themselves yet today's zealots
want us all to think and believe the same thing in a fundamental
literal manner.
My dear Irish mother said There are more back roads into heaven
than you will ever know about. Now for traditionalist fundamentalists
that means the Lord was about forgiveness not dogma and rigid
nonsense. Personally I gave up on organized religion long ago when
I thought for myself works for me

He would have indeed said that, but wouldn't have cussed. Moodah tells us that we must accept that into life, a little rain must fall. We must embrace the rain, as we embrace the sun. Nothing is out of place.

"For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears.

When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me.

For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known." (1 Corinthians 13:9-12 NIV)

Childlike is realizing the Truth deficit in my life and pursuing Him.
