RB,
Did y ou even read my post??? When did I ever suggest we introduce US healthcare. I'm not proposing to do away with universal healthcare.
I'm glad your family has received appropriate health care when they required it. However, this certainly isn't the norm, we have stories everyday in the media about health care and the problems with wait times and lack of resources. Are you telling me that everything is hunky-dory with our medical system??
If our system is so good why are there so many wealthy Canadians who are going south to get their health care needs satisfied??
When the last time you wanted to see a specialist? How long was the wait? On a personal note, I told my GP about a mole that I thought had changed he wanted a dermatologist to look at because he agreed that it didn't look right. The appointment was 6 months later, then when the dermatologist took a look at it he also agreed that it should come out and because of where the mole was we had to make an appointment with a plastic surgeon. That was another 4 month wait to SEE the plastic surgeon who then scheduled the surgery for 3 months later. So all together it took 13 months for a mole that everyone believed could be cancerous was finally removed. ITS A 5 MINUTE PROCEDURE!!!!!! Luckily it turned out not to be cancerous but it wasn't normal either. We're all told to check moles regularly and that we shouldn't wait to have them checked out. I did my part by bringing to my GP's attention. Then OUR health system dropped the ball for 13 long months.
Again, I'm not suggesting we abandon our health care system, but am trying to make suggestions that would allow for extra money to be generated for the health care system that Canadians are going to spend south of the border. I appreciate a good discussion, but find it difficult to debate with someone who puts words in my mouth.
