PS..........if the US WAR mongers / supporters would spend as much time defending PEACE , HUMANITARIANISM, Environmental care , and research re: the rapid changes in the weather and the increase in Xtreme Natural events.... humanity might stand a chance / as would the planet itself.

There are many things we can't control.... most of which we need to understand better than we do so we can cope with them more effectively and wisely. That is why it is so imperative that we change our destructive behavior which only adds to the turbulence.

Imagine how much research could be done with only a portion of the funds spent on wars??

the topic is about a lot more than just listing the natural events that are taking place. They are part of a larger dynamic.

Is it Nature playing havoc or is it man playing havoc?

It is both.(IMHO) . But it is a good question. Thx.

The wind is coming up ... might get a storm after all, might blow by.

Can't rule out cloud seeding ... that is a given on the prairies with protecting crops and roofs from hail.

Keep us posted. On a personal level, I am enjoying this little connection with Calgary ...and just might see about getting a true cowboy hat for old times sake.

Take care, and to repeat:; be safe. Enjoy the atomosphere of the Stampede and the added fun of having some really nice people visiting .

Today (here) it "feels" like November .. That moist chill . Not the "norm" for July at all.

Tornados have long been part of Regina's history. I believe the Regina tornado is still Canada's deadliest after 99 years.

I can't wait for the next one so I can set up a fly by night roofing company.

Damage from the tornado is estimated to be F4 on the Fujita scale. The tornado killed 28 people, injured hundreds, and left 2500 people homeless.

Around 500 buildings were destroyed or damaged. Property damage was quantified at $1.2 million CAD,[4] and it would be forty years before the $4.5 million CAD private and public debt incurred to rebuild and repair was repaid.[5] The worst damage was in the central business district, with many buildings entirely destroyed; the affluent residential area to the south was substantially diminished, but the tornado left houses untouched here and there immediately adjacent to houses which were flattened.

The city charged those rendered homeless by the disaster nightly for cots set up in schools and city parks. They also charged homeowners for the removal of rubble from their homes.[6] Debris was cleaned up quickly and the only remaining "souvenir" of this event are different-coloured bricks on the north wall of Regina's Knox-Metropolitan United Church, showing where the wall collapsed and was rebuilt.

Thanks! I had no idea that there ever was a tornado in Western Canada. Makes sense that the homeowners paid for it as they would have had insurance for natural disasters ... I'm assuming.

Not back then no. There weren't even mortgages in that day.

Thanks ... it was interesting because the winds picked up about 20 minutes after the helicoptor and F16 or F18 or maybe an F22 ... the one with the longer nose ... flew over. Then the radio switched to something that sounded a bit like the new phone we just got so I was wandering around wondering whether to pick up the phone or let the dogs out. It was the emergency warning system and it looks like some branches were broken, but I haven't had a close look.

Presbyterian Church after Cyclone, 1912 - City of Regina

40 years to repay the provincial government? It sounds like the city incured expenses.

Alberta and Saskatchewan became provinces at around the same time, and before that weren't they part of the Northwest Territories under the Ontario Conservative gov't? Correct me if I'm wrong, I was never good in Social Studies.

Earth quakes do not target countries, there is no retribution for some past deeds and it has nothing
to do with wars. It is something that is natural, for centuries there has been little real upheaval at all
Not like there was when the earth was forming.
Oh I forgot, for insurance purposes all natural disasters are acts of God. Says so in the policy they
sell you.
The other thing to think about, if God was really trying to get the United States he has very poor aim.
He has hit Haiti, South America, Asia, and almost every where else and missed America, maybe he
approves of all America's wars and is punishing the rest. (tongue in cheek)

Not really sure what Party held the reins in Saskatchewan in 1912, to be honest.

The tornado Petros is talking about chewed a path through the city four blocks
wide....and was one real ugly event. Here's some pic's of the aftermath:
Overcoming Disaster : SCAA and Regina Cyclone - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Walter Scott. Liberal.

Interesting....

British actor William Henry Pratt was appearing in a play
in Regina at the time of the storm. In the aftermath, he volunteered as a rescue
worker. Years later, he would move to Hollywood and change his name to Boris
Karloff. In the 1960s, Karloff appeared on the talk and game show Front Page
Challenge
where he was featured not because of his notoriety in horror
films, but because of his involvement in the Regina Cyclone of 1912.

so it would be prudent then, to ask that the insurance companies prove god exists...........

Maybe they believe the Earth is god. That is the only explanation for saying natural disasters are acts of god.

Or maybe they use "god" as an explanation for things they don't understand. (on a scientific / logical basis ) Metaphors have usually been the fall back position for lack of knowledge.

In the meantime, even the basic weather patterns are not following what used to be "normal" trends. Don't recall July being this coldish... This is not "summer " weather as we have known it .
