Yo can make an eartquake at home by machine. Put a nice wet river rock into you microwave crank it up for 30 min on HI and see what happens. Ask your mom if it is okay first though.

amusing , is it??? Maybe you should get your parents to elevate the parental controls re: your access to the family computer.

Plus: YOU DO HAVE THE RIGHT TO REMAIN SILENT.;-)

Gee Whiz, would you be talking about the wars like the one that defeated the Nazis?

Or the one that saved South Korea????? (if you doubt it was saved, take a look at North Korea......)

Or the Cold one.....that kept the USSR at bay???

Or the one that liberated Kuwait?

Or the one that liberated Iraq????

Or the one that is UN approved, that was the reaction to the murder of 3000 people????

And remember, in 5 out of 6 of the above, Canadians fought shoulder to shoulder with our friends and allies to the south.........and we were involved in the sixth...

So what the hell are you talking about????

AND what the heck does US foreign policy have to do with earthquakes????

OFF topic..........but YOU ADMIT that WAR (killing, slaughter and delusional ideas of saving other nations ) is YOUR KEY FOREIGN POLICY. Ok.........that is a start.

No one said any thing about foreign policy. What the issue is , is that THERE IS ENOUGH DESTRUCTION COMING FROM NATURAL EVENTS ......without mankind adding to them by his stupid wars and all the ills that follow the wars.

How many times does one have to explain that??? sheesh. This is confirmation that the population has been truly dumbed down and programmed to recite the party line like the sheeple they have become. What is astounding is that so much stupidity can be so bloated in its own arrogance and egotism.

Observation: Brains (US) are an untapped resource. So there might be hope.

Please, don't insult the French population of Canada and/or of the world by assuming or even raising the question that somebody that thick could be French.
You're right. The French are considerably thinner in the cranium than that...... unless they are mimes.

Re: Nature Playing Havoc on the Planet

When I was a child, we didn't have tornados in Alberta - that was Wizard of Oz. It seems to be something from the last 15-20 years, with the first tornado I remember being a trailer park in Edmonton. There was a devastating wind gust at the Canmore Fest a couple of years ago. It seems like lightening strikes have increased too. The winter was long and cold; snow to green ... two colours here: grey and green.

Tornados have long been part of Regina's history. I believe the Regina tornado is still Canada's deadliest after 99 years.

I can't wait for the next one so I can set up a fly by night roofing company.

Damage from the tornado is estimated to be F4 on the Fujita scale. The tornado killed 28 people, injured hundreds, and left 2500 people homeless.

Around 500 buildings were destroyed or damaged. Property damage was quantified at $1.2 million CAD,[4] and it would be forty years before the $4.5 million CAD private and public debt incurred to rebuild and repair was repaid.[5] The worst damage was in the central business district, with many buildings entirely destroyed; the affluent residential area to the south was substantially diminished, but the tornado left houses untouched here and there immediately adjacent to houses which were flattened.

The city charged those rendered homeless by the disaster nightly for cots set up in schools and city parks. They also charged homeowners for the removal of rubble from their homes.[6] Debris was cleaned up quickly and the only remaining "souvenir" of this event are different-coloured bricks on the north wall of Regina's Knox-Metropolitan United Church, showing where the wall collapsed and was rebuilt.

I admit to being surprised to hear about that tornado you first mentioned. It has been many years since I lived in the province but there was never any threat of such events. I remember loving the chinooks. ( do you still have them)?

The weather here on the coast has been far from "normal". It has been much colder. Winter dragged on much longer. There was virtually no spring.......so it seemed like winter to ??? summer and passing spring . It is no longer extreme weather over there somewhere and to be dismissed. Everyone is being affected in very different ways. Not to be or sound like an alarmist ...but I do think we better sit up and pay full attention. Suspect it is not going to get better for some time and who knows what the new "norm" will be.

The Chinook winds are endless. We will have them so long as the mountains remain 100 miles west.

We also had the long winter and then skip spring.

When I was a child, we had blizzards that closed the schools, fog so thick I could not see my hand in front of my face or the ground below my feet ... the weather cycle appears to be bigger than one year ... but is it really changing?

I only lived there for three years. but I don't recall any blizzards or dense fogs . Overall.......it was mild through the winter with the occassional dump of snow......but the chinooks made them tolerable and the snow was never a big issue.

Ok.....this was many years ago. ( '68 or so.......when I worked at the Foothills. Hosp. At that time it was a newish hospital ;-) What you describe is very different from my brief experience.

No offense, but I never did take to the cowboy stuff. But no one can negate the fact that Alberta is quite a wealthy province due to the oil. And good for them.

Hail, severe thunder storms, tornadoes and all sorts of crazy weather in Bowden (location of a prison), Olds and more.

Sure, why not. If Calgary wants to celebrate it's heritage 10 days a year, so be it.

The Foothills hospital was built in conjunction with the University ... nursing school, etc. but in 1968, there were blizzards and it was mighty cold some days - although the Chinook winds always blew in.

I recall one almost blizzard. but lot of time has passed so memory dims.

I loved working at the Foothills. But the coast/ ocean / UBC "called" and gathering experience in various places was the objective at the time. I see that some of the staff I worked with now hold hi level academic positions .....which is awesome. Some exellent work done there too.

Yes.......I do think there are major changes taking place.

UBC was good for Math and Commerce when I went there, Creative Writing program was building a reputation. UC Medicine and Phsyics have made major contributions in the last 30 years ... like the Canadarm and neurological tools and camera that are really tiny, controlled by a computer neurologist.

One year that I spent in Vancouver, might have been 1981, there were 29 hours of sunshine for the entire month. That was enough to drive me back to big skys.

that is how many folks feel about the coast and its abundant rains. ;-) I don't mind it at all.

Yes......UC has made commendable contributions. Suspect that it has very good funding for research too. More power to them.

Powerful Pacific quake triggers tsunami warning - World news - Asia-Pacific - msnbc.com

Another Quake. another region of nature's "rage" and destruction.

When one reviews all the natural "events" & destruction that has taken place in the recent years........makes you wonder why man still causes man made horrors with his WARS.

Time for the humanoid , that supposedly has thinking powers, to realize his impact on other people and the planet and make some serious behavioral changes. Including going into rehab for its (US) addiction to WARS an K ILLING.

Heart felt thoughts going to the most recent victims of the current quake.

That would be fine, except that you are lying through your teeth.

You stuck in the accusatory "US", as I highlighted in your initial post. That changed the entire subject from a insignificant bit of brain-dead philosophy into a criticism of the United States and their foreign policy. Considering our close alliance, as I pointed out, that was also a criticism of Canadian values and foreign policy.........an attack I choose to counter.

A complete waste of time, obviously, as you seem to lack the comprehension skills necessary to understand your own posts.........never mind anyone else's.

All large oil companies contribute to education, community, exploration, and many head offices were transferred during the last 10 years, and many graduates pay back to the institution with large gifts. Good funding and researchers.

Tell us that all the ongoing wars and occupations are NOT affecting PEOPLE, the planet , the environment....(be it plants, animals etc ) in a destructive way??

Tell us that if all the wars were brought to the close and some attempt at peace and a real break from all the violence would not BENEFIT the country AND THE WORLD.

Tell us WHICH nation is the most war hungry nation on the planet ??? Which one starts wars with an ease and a LIE that is deplorable by any standards.

You want to be a certified warmonger supporting death and destruction on the whim of a lie.........fine. That is YOUR Choice. But you might try to put your self in the shoes ot the victims of these invasions and live their life for some time and get a real feel for it Imagine US bombs coming from the skys and having no place to run.. Then compare that MAN MADE EVIL.......... with what nature does over which man has no real choice.

IF we can curtail the wars...... we could use our energies to deal with the no choice events more effectively and humanely.

but there is no money left for that.........as the wars are sucking up the borrowed money like a vacuum cleaner.

it is the priorities that are so screwed up. And the denial that is so over powering.

exellent. !!
