The RCMP were commissioned as a quasi military command , but that was way back when .
I read their history. Technically they remain a regiment of the Canadian Army on paper. And I imagine they'd be activated if needed.

Still, betcha a loonie they have no service commitment unless so activated. If they did, your young hero who did his own legal research wouldn't have resigned.

He would have deserted.

They do sign a contract, but I don't know all the ins and outs of it. Most contracts have some kind of an escape clause.
I don't know about up there either. Down hereabouts, involuntary servitude violates the Thirteenth Amendment. If you've signed a contract and you violate it, the other party (the employer) can sue you for damages, and can generally get an injuction forbidding you to work in the field for pay for the duration of the original contract. But aside from the military, you can't be forced to work.

Interestingly, the case that decided that was when an athlete wanted out of his contract. Guy named Lew Alcindor, whom you may know by his new name.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

The RCMP recently were unionized.
They have no connection or association or commitment to the Canadian Armed Forces. They are a stand alone National Police Force.

My Son In Law is RCMP as is my neigbour and I spent 35 years in the Air Force (all in Search and Rescue)
Yeah, you mentioned the AF. Twelve years myself, in intelligence. Pleasure to make your acquaintance, sir or Sarge (or whatever you call a warrant officer, we called 'em "Mister" back when we had 'em).

Chief Warrant Officer and I was called a lot more and worse than Mister LOL
Was never going to make it a life long career but the job as so interesting and diverse, the time just "flew" by.

Would the short form of address be "Chief," like it is for our Navy chief petty officers?

I made Technical Sergeant, the sixth of nine enlisted ranks. Never got to senior NCO before I got out.

Yeah, the past going on 3 years was a world wide bad acid trip
Well, of course! Pandemics are declared by the World Health Organization, which every good, red-blooded Chicken Little KNOWS exists for the sole purpose of turning us all into Communist Commies!

Good thing we got heroic, semi-literate, red-blooded truckers to stand against the ravening horde! They'll never get past our truck blockade!

FREEEEEEE-DUMB!

Actually, they do.

Special powers. Special legal status.

Wanna get the police unions (and the tighty whitey righties) cranked up? Propose a law saying "no law enforcement officer shall enjoy any difference in legal status or treatment from any other person."

I like the deal the Brits have. These days, if a Brit cop violates your rights, you can go through the full-dress, tedious, time-consuming, expensive legal process, or you can file a complaint. If the complaint is upheld in an administrative process, you get 500 pounds (of what, I'm not sure, but there's 500 pounds of it).

Good for you. Stay off those "sports book" websites. Enjoy Halle Berry's boobs in the advert (lady's looking FINE for 55!) and keep your wallet and your li'l buddy in your pants.

I'm kidding. I know it can be a little hard to tell sometimes, with me.
