According to a new poll from Ipsos, conducted for Global News, more than half of Canadians believe religion does more harm than good.

And among Canadians, it’s people in Quebec who really look down upon religion.
Compared to the rest of Canada, Quebecers are significantly more likely than residents of other provinces to feel religion does more harm than good (62 per cent). They’re also more inclined (18 per cent) to lose respect for people when they find out they are religious.
Only a quarter of Canadians (24%) said they believe religion makes you a better person, while only a third (34%) believed religion and politics should mix.

Religion and politics go together like cartoons and circus carnies.
Funny, these days, the christians who mix religion with politics often hate the muslims for mixing religion with politics.

I blame the Jesuits for how Quebecers feel. They soured a lot of people on religion.

Da fuq you talking about? Have you never heard of the CHPC and how the electorate handed them their asses, twice? You see, the problem is in this majority Christian country, the voters clearly demonstrated they were NOT interested in a party of religious principles based on Biblical law. We had the freedom to say "no". But Trudeau and his f*ckwitted ilk don't want us to have that same freedom when it comes to Islam because it would be "racist" or some f*cking nonsense.

Perhaps so, but the Jesuits spoiled the apples long before anyone in N.America even knew what a Muslim was.

because new immigrants seem to be muslim and muslims will pay taxes. The gov't is only interested in how many more people they can have in their country to pay taxes.

Stat is a little low considering the Residential Schools were still in operation as late as 1960. The RCC should have been banned for 350 years. Hard to do when it was the Gov that gave them the kids they molested and killed.

I wonder if they'd include the maudlin agnosticism, moral relativism, radical individualism that now defines our culture as a religion. It certainly corresponds to a puritanical of belief system imposing compulsory affirmation of abortion, homosexuality, euthenasia, deformation of the family, AGW and various other expression of political correctness. If so i would say it is absolutely corrosive to our nation.

allowing people to have rights...is puritanical belief system imposing compulsory affirmation?

Your post reads like the arrogance about your perceived moral superiority is blocking your ability to recognize that others have rights too. You don't believe others have rights?

Religion can defiantly be harmful. and there are many reasons that it is so. For one thing it is a form of group think based on a fixed delusion.

ref: a book called "the God delusion" presents some logical and reasonable premises that make sense. We have all seen what BELIEFS can result in: prejudice , attitudes of exceptionalism , and lack of tolerance of other beliefs. The issue is with ALL religious beliefs Personal beliefs are just that..(PERSONAL).....but all too often they become convoluted and result in destructive behavior. .........religious wars being the most extreme.

This is a very good topic.

Not if they're not white male straight Christians with money.

"Then did Jesus say unto them, blessed are they who are white, and male, and lie not with man, and are possessed of gold, municipal bonds, or convertible debentures, and follow me, for they shall have rights before God and Caesar. And let no one who has not all these things have rights, be they black or brown, or sinful woman, or lie with man, or have not a balanced portfolio of securities, or hear not my word, and hearing it, listen not to the parts about loving one another."

The Gospel According to coldstream 13:22-28.

The People's Republic of China has atheism as its official religion.

Let all atheists learn Chinese.

Religion is dangerous because it divides us as brothers and sisters through ideological and dogmatic lines. The one thing that scares the bejeezus out of the religious is the idea that we are all one with the Universe/God/Allah/Wakan Tonka. Unity is our eventual destination but that would alleviate the need for religious leaders and their divisive religions.
