I love these stories. Those pageants with hot chicks sure don't turn out like they used to. They used to promise world peace and got married soon after. Hot chicks nowadays do lots of things to turn on the boys. Some get caught. Hot dog.

Less than 24 hours after her victory pictures emerged of Rima Fakih, 24, dancing next to a pole wearing red hot pants and a tank top, One photograph showed her with dollar bills stuffed into her bra.

The "Stripper 101" contest took place in 2007 and was sponsored by a Detroitradio show called Mojo in the Morning.

  • The contest was run by strippers but Miss Fakih and other contestants did not remove their clothes.
However, organisers of the Miss USA pageant are investigating.
A representative for the radio show said the pageant had been in contact and asked for any further information or photographs.
Miss Fakih won the "Stripper 101" contest at the Coliseum gentleman's club and her prizes included a stripper pole.
DJ Spike, co-host of the radio show, said it would be "ridiculous" to take away her Miss USA crown.
He said Miss Fakih had worn more clothes than in publicity photographs for the Miss USA pageant.
Miss Fakih was born in Lebanon but moved to the United States at the age of three.
She represented Michigan in the Miss USA pageant at the Planet Hollywood hotel and casino in Las Vegas.

Good for her! Next thing you know she'll be spread eagle in a gross pub like a Christian girl handing out posters to the first guy who nails her twat with an iced loonie.

I saw the news story on TV and it is good news indeed. Most people have this image of Muslim women, fully veiled, practically slaves of their husbands (or their fathers, before the marriage). While some Muslim women no doubt conform to that stereo type, there are many Muslim women who do not.

This should go some way towards dispelling the stereo type. If the beauty contest organizers have any sense at all, they will leave the stripper episode alone. Indirectly they have done some good in dispelling some of the many Muslim stereo types, and they should not spoil it by manufacturing some controversy.

Article says she didn't remove her clothes, which were more than what the girls in swimsuit part of the competition for Miss USA wear, so I don't see a big deal.

Where does it say in the article that she's a 'sort of Muslim'? Lebanon is religiously quite diverse.

Anyway, if she professes the Islamic faith, then she certainly wasn't practicing Islam at the time.

Not ALL practicing Catholics have sex solely for the purposes of procreation either. It's the extremists who hog all the news.

And practically everyone in the picture is a woman. So was it just a bunch of women having fu? And she's still wearing more than enough clothes to not raise eyebrows if walking along the street in downtown Ottawa on a hot summer day.

Just looked at the picture again. Her clothes would be a little skimpy for downtown Ottawa on a hot summer day, but still a far cry from looking like a stripper. But it still wouldn't give a positive image either unless she were at the beach or a swimming pool.

Rima Fakih is a Muslim name, Machjo. So she probably is a Muslim, whether practicing or not. And it is irrelevant whether she is a practicing Muslim (and practicing according to whose definition, anyway?).

The important point is that this shakes up the stereo type of Muslim women.

If it were legalized, that sort of thing wouldn't happen. Like pot, it would eliminate the criminal element that prey on young girls. And if a client should request the services of under aged hookers, they could be reported and tagged (chip implant?) for future reference.

It's more accurately an Arabic name, and as here names are usually chosen by parents and so do not necessarily reflect the child's beliefs. Add to that that may Muslim names are attributes of God or ames of Biblical Prophets too, and so will sometimes ovrlap with Christian names too. The article did specify she was Muslim, but had it not been for that, it would have been pure speculation. Let's not forget Lebanon is the most Christianized Arab state.

And what is wrong with prostitution?

I'm no feminist mind you, but I think it has to do with the exploitation of women (many prostitutes have no other means of income or are drug addicts, etc., and some have even been lured to drugs specifically for that purpose by having been given the drugs for free initially so as to hook them).

Then we have harassment. Once a neighbourhood is known for prostitution, it attracts the wrong kind of man making passes at any innocent woman passing by.

Then we have HIV which costs much money, and divorces which also cost society money since many divorces end in emotional breakdowns, job losses, children suffering academically which will have a long-term impact in the job market and so the economy, etc.

The costs of prostitution to society are no greater than the costs of adultery in general, but the cost of either is extremely high to society.

Personally, I'd support a fine for adultery, which would double with each repeat offense, and by adultery I don't mean only involving a married person, but even two unmarried people.
