Northern Ontario,
none of us have anything against the poor...
It's the lazy bums who think they are too good for certain jobs that we can't stand....

First of all it was a promise people voted for. Secondly it does not destroy
jobs for teens. People can pay fifteen bucks. I Pay fifteen for employees
regardless of how old they are when I need help on the farm.
This idea we can pay one little group less is an old idea Used to be women
were shafted now its teens eh?

$15? That's cheap. $20 -$22 is the going rate for farm labour around here.

That's because for all grumpy's big words, when it comes to money out of HIS pocket, he pays as little as possible and screw the little guy. I bet there's no "union" on his farm.

Grumpy may have a big family to provide for, Ger. It's generally dangerous to second guess the other guy's situation. :)

Just pointing out how for all his big talk about the little guy, he really is no different than any other "capitalist" looking out for the bottom line.

I don't think capitalists are out working at Grumpy's age. The Okanagan is a bit of a depressed area.

Tell me about it. You (or the redoubtable Mrs. JLM) ever try to bake rye bread? Infuriating. Mostly I just do tortillas or fry bread.

Nope never tried baking rye bread!

Hard to put a price on fear, Spade. Though apparently it's more'n $12.39 an hour.

To put it in context, 12.39 USD can buy only 2.6702586206896552 Big Macs in Canada. Sorry about the decimals but I believe that's the extra lettuce.

Mind you, I understand fear. According to a recent (Link on demand) survey of American millionaires, they only breathe more easily if their net worth exceeds $5 million USD. To earn that amount at 15 CDN per hour, it would take over 194 years of 40 hour weeks.

I think 194 years slaving at minimum wage would kill most of us. By the way, you want fries with that?

2/3 would work for me.

I've been wondering if earning more is as important as learning to live on less. The amount of waste I see is just mind boggling. I don't know if it's true or not (I hope it's a gross exaggeration) but a few months ago it was reported on the news that 40% of groceries in Canada end up in the garbage can. That is disgusting. Who is accepting that?

Some folks were born to break their backs at hard labor all of their lives, and some were not. I made more money working for myself than I ever did working for someone else but the security of knowing how much your check would be every week,,regardless of how little it was, sometimes became a thing to hang on to. Truth is in this country, most business owners could not give a flying fvck about the welfare of their employees regardless of their value to the company. that's just the way it is .

because people,,,,,"suck"

I've always thought working hard was important but working smart is more important.
