I don't think we have a purely socialist party in Canada,

We don't have pure capitalism, either. The last time that we had that is when the Northwest and Hudson's Bay Companies were at war with each other, back in the early 19th century.

True. As I said, all our major parties would be more accurately described as "moderate", being only slightly one side or the other from centre. Pure forms of either Capitalism of Socialism just wouldn't work in today's Canada, too many inequities at either end of the scale.

Even pure capitalism isn't pure capitalism. Adam Smith himself called for government regulation and intervention in the market. If you read the whole book.

Conservatives give many times more to charities than do Libs.

Where does one look to find the records of the political membership of donors.

I don't think we have a purely socialist party in Canada, it's just an easy reference for being left of centre where Socialism is at the extreme left and Capitalism at the extreme right. If you had to actually graph it out all our major parties would likely show as a pretty tight grouping around center, some a little left and some a little right.

That sounds about right to me.
