It is not the time to place blame for anything now! What is important is that they get help ASAP

Thankfully no one was blaming either. But can we trust that the money and medical aid being sent there will actually reach those who need it, or will it be siphoned off the way so much of the previous "aid" has been? Can we trust that the money our government sends to the - laughfully named - "government" of Haiti will ever reach those most in need or simply fatten the accounts of the handful of crooks that actually control the country? Can we trust the money won't be used to buy more guns to further intimidate the population?

Can we trust that, as soon as the initial outreach transits from desparate need to contained and managable, the thugs who actually control the nation will not, again, send their goons into the devastated areas and start looting and terrorizing all over again?

Given the history of aid to Haiti, it seems a small thing to expecct full and complete accountability for the cash and resources flowing into that country, especially during this time of emergency. Is that too much too ask?

Something like 10c in every dollar sent actually makes it to the people that need it. Some of the so called "aid" organizations are more interested in their own survival than the people they are supposed to be helping. Hopefully the US makes sure its money gets where it needs to go.

You know,if your going to make all these claims then maybe try backing it up with a little proof because it seems your just making crap up like a few other spammers on here.

Start with the history of aid there,do you have any idea about it or just pulled that post out of your butt?

Haiti has been the most impoverished country in the Caribbean for a number of years, where was all the care and concern for then during that time?
Prayers mean very little when the body is in need of things.

Yes and we do what we can(doctors without borders) so if your going to use this horrible tragedy to push your little hate agenda then back it up with some facts!

I can say the moon is made of cheese but it doesnt make it true.

So whats really your point?

A Very Unfortunate/devastating event in Haiti but a very convient opportunity for US and all peaceful/powerful countries to show how compassionate we can be...It's somewhat sad that it so often takes a tragedy to bring out the good in people...Let's hope/pray those who are suffering get all the donations they need and more...

Let's help Haiti turn their Misfortune/Devastation into Opportunity/Salvation. Their Grief/loss into Inspiration/Looking Forward to the Re-Creation.

I personally know people who have gone to Haiti on missions to help people, and I have supported their efforts financially, emotionally, and with other donations.

Have you?

Daily Plantet dedicated their program to the Haitian crisis last night and there were some interesting new technologies highligthed that could indeed provide much needed help to the millions of homeless people in the country.

One of the most impressive was a new shelter by a company called Concrete Canvas. The shelters come in a bag. They are then inflated and sprayed with water and left to harden. The set-up takes about 2 hours. The shelters are approximately 54 square feet and are said to last for 10 years. They can be encased in snow or dirt for more insulation.

Pat Robertson is absurd. A slave revolt overthrows the French, and they made a deal with the devil to do it? Robertson must have a direct line to the Devil. Blaming the Haitians for this, pathetic, despicable...par for the course for this douchebag.

A 7.0 magnitude Earthquake is not large as large Earthquakes go but the damage depends to a large extent on the type of construction. Looking at the fallen buildings in Haiti, there doesn't seem to be a lot of rebar or reinforcing steel in evidence. In that huge Earthquake in Alaska a few years ago, a few buildings survived much higher magnitudes than this.

Poor construction of the buildings is one of the main reasons for the huge loss of life, Juan. That is why it is really important that rebuilding is done with careful attention to the earthquake readiness of any new structures.

Dear GG,

perhaps this is the time that you should return to Haiti and give up the post you never earned in a country you always considered foreign.

Re: Inappropriate Attacks on the Governor General

How inexplicably inappropriate of you.

Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean C.C., C.M.M., C.O.M., C.D., the Governor General of Canada has been an excellent vice-reine; to use the tragic events in the Republic of Haiti as a launchpad for very personal attacks against Her Excellency is reprehensible. Her Excellency has been a citizen of Canada for a good many years, and has exercised the Office of the Governor General admirably, with tact, grace and fantastic discretion.

What a colossally assinine thing to say at a time like this.

OK, when Jeanne Michaelle was nominated - never mind - named GG by the most ineffectual and inept PM, was there no CANADIAN who could fill the bill just as well, or better? Hard to believe!!!

I am an immigrant myself, but I am sick and tired of the political correctness that inflicts this once great country.

How and why did a second-rate CBC commentator deserve to be the Head of State?

At the same time, I have already donated to the Haiti relief fund, and I think that her Highness would do a a heck of a lot better for her country, if she did the decent thing and let Canadians be Canadians and Haitians be Haitians. Starting with her.

Her Majesty the Queen of Canada is head of State; Her Excellency is the Queen’s representative.

The head of State is Canadian, and so is Her Majesty’s representative. If you want to politicise the issue, could you please take it somewhere else? I (and likely many other members) would be happy to engage you on the merits of Ms. Jean’s appointment some place more appropriate — it seems uncouth to blow the issue up here, when we are discussing prayers and positive thoughts for the people of Haiti.
