Merger of the Century: Why Canada and America Should Become One Country

A Canadian-US merger could only work to Canada's disadvantage. All world studies show us to be superior to America in quality of life, standard of living, health care, cleanliness and all of the things that make us what we are. America literally has nothing to offer - look at their current political impasse with extreme right-wing politicians threatening to trash the economy if they don't get their way? The extreme right savaged the world between 1939 and 1945. The average American doesn't need what it is offering but he can't do much about it. We don't want it either and all we have to do is say "no".

Of course, buying parts of the US is the preferred method for the following reasons:
1. Canadians get to choose those regions we will assimilate.
2. Buying is a free-market principle; merging and sharing is socialism.
3. When real estate is purchased, we as the owners will decide who the residents will be.
4. Land values appreciate. Canada will be able sell portions at a profit to highest bidders.
5. Purchasing resource -rich regions will allow Canadians to benefit without having to despoil our own pristine areas.
6. Purchasing is acquiring though stealth rather than war. Americans will freely participate in our manifest destiny.
7. Areas we will not purchase will become "Bantustans" isolating barbaric peoples. Good fences make good neighbours.
8. The Bantustans will provide a reservoir of cheap labour.

I like the way you think. Most of those are already happening in Florida and Arizona....you know...the good places. Soon all the Americans will be left with are ****holes like Massachusetts and New Jersey

I have little difficulty accepting Islamic peoples and including them as part of our multi-cultural culture. But do you really want to do that with Americans? IMO we're better off letting them keep their drug culture, their greenback culture, their gun culture and their "me first" culture where it belongs, in America. We do not play the music Hail to the Chief when our PM enters the room and hopefully we never will. America is too extremist.

Don't understand the difference between head of government and head of state, eh?

I'll put it on the list.

Opening the Northern resources is critical. Otherwise they sit stranded. Power blocs are emerging. From China to Russia and all thru the Stans.

Do you mean the way America perceives it has a "national interest" in the Gulf that justifies making war on the people of the region?

Nope.
Look to the agreements that Russia, China and all the Stans are making. The new silk road and a rich one it will be.
We need huge investment in the North to tap the resources.

No argument there. I lived in Nunavut and it's a bitch of a climate. Snow is still on the ground and the bays are full of ice at the beginning of June. You always know when Frobisher Bay will be ice free because the Canadian Coast Guard icebreaker arrives June 7 or thereabouts every year. Bra-less season in Nunavut is July when women undo the zippers on their windbreakers. August and September are autumn. Once the Northwest Passage becomes accessible to shipping during ice-free months, the sea route from Europe to Asia will be drastically shortened. Sooner or later it will become a major shipping lane.

Yeah but once many right wing delusionals see that your system (one similar to the FDR reform we used to have) is so much better they will stop voting Republican and all will be better for the majority of people.

Canadians have a great deal to learn from Muslims about the proper role of women in society and the fate of lgbtq folks. Allahu Akbar. Canadian Muslims should be in charge of the Violence Against Women Commission, and the LGBTQ Equal Rights Commission. Love Allah.

America is your country now. But nothing lasts forever.

Republicans allowed Tea Baggers to further screw up their party and now they regret having done so. If this continues more people will vote patriotic and take away all power from the delusional right wing. That will make it better for all.

I'd be nice to me if I where you. One day soon we could be your slave masters.

Bah! , now I need to go shower
I feel yucky just talking to you dirty Americans.
:p

Where I live most people are Mexicans. Do you hate the Mexicans too? Canada has much to learn from Mexico.

What is patriotism except the last refuge of the scoundrel such as yourself?

That assumes that the only difference between Canada and the US is Republicans. Democrats are too far right of Canadian conservatives to make it work. One way to put it is that Canadians and Americans have similar cultures but different politics. Canadians have many of the same property habits of Americans because we share the same geography and habits, but Canada and America are different. Like oil and water, we wouldn't form a solution satisfactory to Canadians. Three hundred million+ Americans wouldn't change one iota and would expect us to "be American". Given the usual harsh American way of dealing with others they want to change, it would not be a happy time to be Canadian. Every vestige of being "Canadian" would be considered "communist" and the demand would be that we have to change.

I don't hate anyone, baals.

I'm just making fun of Americans, using a little irony by treating them the same way many of them like to treat Mexicans.

It's a little something us Canadians like to call, karma.
