Used to be a General Motors custumer.

1952 Chevrolet
1958 Oldsmobile
1961 Pontiac Convertible
1962 Pontiac Laurentian
1990 pontiac Bonneville
1991 Pontiac Sunbird

My cars, or my wife's.

General Motors decided to kill Oldsmobile and Pontiac. They will NEVER, EVER have me as a customer again.

Presently I drive a 2002 Sienna van (over 325,000 km), my wife drives a 2000 Corolla, (over 225,000 km).

I am willing to bet that both of our vehicles would outlive a brand new GM product.

I live in downtown toronto so I don't really need a car, subway and bike for me. The bike is light enough for cruising around town and goes good on light trails around the lake.

Of course, the subway and/or your bike will get you to visit someone a thousand kilomwters away.

I used to be quite content to "hop on the plane". That was when I was not examined, harassed and irritated by swarthy characters, who are far more likely to be terrorists than I.

So, now, if I can drive there, I drive there.

That is why I drive a reliable Toyota, rather than a domestic, union-labour-built piece of garbage.

I haven't flow in about 4 years now, security harassment were not too bad. Flying to the US would be another story though.

Can't complain about a Toyota, they are a solid car.

No, I just know from past experience that Toyota makes a good car.

Japanese manufacturers long ago decided that for their manufacturing processes, a standard deviation of 0.8 was too large. They went with 0.7 or 0.75 I think. The fellow who pitched this idea to Detroit was told that 0.8 was fine. Years later, Toyota and Honda routinely hold their value longer, because they have a high quality, uniform product. It doesn't matter which day of the week they make the car.

We know a plastic surgeon, he is filthy rich. Most plastic surgeons do a lot of non OHIP work, and can charge at much higher rates than OHIP rates, so plastic surgeons tend to be among the richest doctors.

Anyway, he has an antique Cobra, it cost him 500,000 dollars. That is not the car you can drive every day, he takes it out once in a while.

He brought it to a party. When the party broke up and he tried to start his car, it wouldn’t start, the battery had run down. He had to get a boost from the host’s lowly SUV. He got a lot of good natured ribbing for that.

I often thought what car I would drive if I were independantly rich, winner of a lottery or just a complete idiot like the one cited in SirJosephPorter's post - as pleasure, rather than everyday transportation - and I came up with the car that would reflect my youth, my innocence and my sense for beauty angd grace.

And it would be a 1958 Chevrolet Impala convertible. Preferably fire engine red.

I would take it out EVERYDAY, now that I am retired. The dolt who paid $500,000 for a piece of expensive crap would have nothing on me. At any stoplight I would leave him eating my dust.

As for my personal, everyday transportation, I would desire nothing more than what I already have: A Toyota Sienna van. My present one is a 2002. So, one of more recent vintage might be welcome, but not necessarily so. I maintaned my van over the years, and I fully expect it to last 1,000,000 kilometers.

And like Sir P's Nipponese rollerskate, it gets you from A to B but without the expensive fuel habit. We prefer bikes, too, but we live 40 minutes drive from town. Town trips are avoided as much as possible.
Next vehicle I would like a Mini or a Honda (something like an S2000 or a Civic would be ok) with electric drive.
