WINNIPEG — A hunter who turned up after being lost in the southeast Manitoba bush for three weeks says thoughts of his family and the hundreds of people who were looking for him kept him going.

“(It was) my wife and my son and the knowledge that the search and rescue community and people I don’t even know were out looking,” said Brad Lambert, who turned up safe and sound Saturday after 21 nights in the bush.

“That means a great deal.”

Lambert, 46, had been last seen Nov. 15 when he stopped to buy supplies for a deer hunting trip southeast of his Winnipeg home.

A compass would be just as handy. Still have to know hoe to use it and where you are to start with.
Sometimes what you'd think is the answer is really just burden.

Apparently a cellphone was useless....

Did he ever find his truck?

:lol::lol::lol:

Was he ever out of it till he became stuck?

You have fire making material, deer hunting supplies, a gun, warm clothes. You're not lost; just in the bush for a bit.

Hell, we call that a holiday here in the swamp.

Research, the bonehead didnt do his homework......

Use the many skills you know in the area you research and plan your trip in and you will never get lost or stranded in the forest. A good bushrat always practices his skills and knows as much as possible related to the anything outdoors.

especially if you go alone?!?!

I don't use a compass, GPS, map, or cell phone to keep from getting lost in the woods.

I leave a trail of bread crumbs.

PS: He got the truck stuck. Follow the tracks back out..........?? Something is not according to Hooole/Hoyle/Jimmie Durante.

Perhaps snow/rain covered up the tracks?

Whatever the reason he was stuck there for so long, his family now has gotten one of the best Christmas presents they could have hoped for.:)

there are so many things to use for direction

at noon the direction where your shadow points
the direction the dominant wind blows at our latitude
where the sun sets
etc etc

damn you...

then id go snuggle underneath a spruce tree and wait it out like a dear till the night sky showed itself and i could see the north star :)
Or follow your unique colour coded surveyors tape back to your truck. No compass, no GPS, no map, no cell phone.

that works for sure man....

pink and orange are the colours for sure (no contest) though the neon green sometimes looks like very fresh spruce buds sometimes when the sunlight is all funny.... Blue and red some times get all messed up to see when you walk through thick bush during funny lighting...

But then you'd have to worry about a wood tick and the dreaded...lyme disease!;)
