That all happened before the settlers arrived. The entire continent was in disarray before the settlers arrived. The first round of plagues happened right after the first Spanish explorers landed in Florida. It reached Hudson Bay withing two years. The history from the original settlers to today was completely skewed because what really happened has only recently come to light with the latest archaeological findings. Most of the wars fought were between invasion and the arrival of the settlers because, with 90% loss of life, most of the agrarian societies fell apart and were forced back to hunter/gatherer societies, causing territorial disputes that were not that prevalent before.

The first explorers encountered fairly sophisticated societies and communities that they mercilesly killed to steal whatever the Spanish considered treasure. Those who managed to survive the original onslaught, died of the diseases left behind. Most of what we think we know about the early history of occupation is false, maybe no intentionally so much as ignorance. Unless someone has been keeping up to date on the latest breakthroughs in archaeology and anthropology, chances are they are full on misconceptions and misinformation.

that is a good point. The Aztecs actually threw Cortez out until disease thinned their ranks by 85 % plus. then he came back to finish the job.

the Inca had a rudementary idea that the Whites were spreading Viral diseases. Pizarro was EXTREMELY lucky to arrive at the climax to their civil war, - and meet an arrogant, rather clueless young sun god.

You should back the underlined with some proof.

"Between 1616 and 1619, pandemics originating from infectious diseases carried by European fishermen killed thousands of New England Algonquians in coastal areas south of present-day Rhode Island. At the time the English started colonizing New England in 1620, the Narragansett were the most powerful native nation in the southern area of the region; they had not been affected by the epidemics."

Narragansett people - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Actually- the Natives of the South East United States threw repeated Spanish conquest attemptss out- until the epidemics hit. De Soto wasn't the first. Most didn't get much of a start- De Vaca, etc. Despite the lack of horses, - etc. Disease was the determinant.

The Europeans were simply a more hardier people. Once the Europeans were established it was a done deal.

- De Vaca, etc. Despite the lack of horses, - etc. Disease was the determinant.

De Vaca... good example... you would think... or you thought.

What were the reasons for the failure? Attacks by Indians... storms... and wouldn't you know... DISEASE!

that is a good point. The Aztecs actually threw Cortez out until disease thinned their ranks by 85 % plus. then he came back to finish the job.

Excuses excuses.

The Spanish and their native allies beat them. The Aztecs was also an oppressive and conquering empire that enjoyed their time in the sun. They simply could not defeat the Europeans and their native allies.

the Inca had a rudementary idea that the Whites were spreading Viral diseases. Pizarro was EXTREMELY lucky to arrive at the climax to their civil war, - and meet an arrogant, rather clueless young sun god.

If it wasn't Pizzaro it would have been someone else.

It's a real task to attack a couple hundred people.

When boat load after boat load started showing up and the odds still far from even, guess who were conquered?

Well said

DeSoto Discovers The Mississippi

:lol::lol::lol:.............Where DO you gettem ??

For my people they (Canadian Gov) took away the fathers, mothers and the kids in handcuffs and enslaved them. All got we got was a lousy plaque and not even a lick of ice cream.

In this one we see the poor abused Natives taking a tour of the facilities that my enslaved people built.

Where is my cheque?

I'm still waiting for mine from the Brits for the holocaust caused by the ol Highland Clearances. Yes indeedy:roll: Oh my, excuse me while I wipe a tear and piss and moan for hours and days.

Definition of irony:: Some people I know are almost full blood Cree, but look white, and don't want the status card because of the "shame of being Indian"...................Jezuzzz!!! It would be hard to handle all that free education and so forth.

So, you're saying that because one organization in the First Nations structure arguably misuses money, the whole First Nations structure should be abolished?
Not for the reason you state here but yes.
OK, I'm good with that, as long as the next time some Canadian government organization (like the Senate) misuses money, the entire Canadian system of government is abolished.
Let's do it now, it is a farce anyway.

And just where did they learn about that? Show me a government that is not corrupt. Corruption is built into democracy. It is not a natural system to aboriginal peoples.
I gotta call you on this Cliffy.

Are you saying governmental systems and beliefs are genetic or something????? WTF??? Please do explain.

Yep, heard that one before too. "The Indians had wars among themselves, therefore it was perfectly appropriate to wipe them out."

In another thread, you're glorifying D-Day. I take it you think the Germans were the bad guys in WWII? Why? By the standard you've just propounded, England and France, having engaged in wars in the past, deserved to be invaded and occupied.

Nobody 'deserves' to be victimized by wars or occupations but it has happened since before man cam out of the trees in Africa and it will happen for a long time yet. The real issue I have with FN claims is they expect people who had NOTHING to do with what happened to them to pay restitution for events that, at one time or another, happened to all of us. So yeah, get over it, move on with life and be a positive force, not some narcissistic peon living for what might have been if things were different 300 years ago.

I am beginning to get suspicious of your motives. Could it have to do with the Catholic Church's involvement in the rape, murder and abuse of aboriginal children in those schools?

The loving Jesus of the Reservation??

Defensive? Not at all. I'm just not somebody who lives in world of selfish pity who begrudgingly goes around with his lower lip dragging the ground while ignoring the facts to shore up my skewed sense of reality.

I'm not Aboriginal myself, but in my mind, separating kids from their families at an early age, especially when the parents and grandparents and much of the local community experienced the same, for months at a time each year, is bound to undermine family unity over time. Espcially if the parents or grandparents might have experienced abude themselves. Intergenerational PTSD in Aboriginal comunities has been established as fact. Just look at how PTSD affects grown soldiers. Now tell me it won't affect children into adulthood.

I remember a case recently (I can't remember if it was in Canada or the US), where an army chaplin or counsellor or something of the sort came back with PTSD and he'd not even seen combat! It had simply rubbed off on him from the troops who were suffering from it. Now immagine a chile raised in a community with many adult members suffering from PTSD!
