Does anyone feel that the emphasis and anxiety that's been the public relations strategy of the Bush administration regarding border security has anything to do with this terrible event?

How long will it take after six years (Sept. 11/2001) of pounding in the message across media and througout political forums that everyone should be afraid, so afraid they're prepared to accept the odd few "unfortunate" situations like this one?

Which inspires more fear?

A deranged but independent agent of some known terrorist group.....

A well orchestrated planned and precision execution of a radical religious group....

A public demonstration of hopelessness and fear like Klebold and Harris...or the possibility of a psychopath like the Korean kid at Virginia Tech?

Terrorists have what they wanted and George Bush has what he wanted...

Do you live in the world you wanted?

That is what you do when you are restraining someone in a security police business. You put there hands behind their backs and place your knee into the back of their neck or just on the back to ensure they do not move. Standard procedure.

Police kneeling on someones neck is not SOP it is in fact illegal.

Okay, while I don't excuse the actions of these four officers, I see a huge flaw in the comparison of 17 dead by taser versus 17 dead by gun fire.

The HUGE difference (and for this reason I find the use of the term 'murder' to be very wrong), is expectation of injury.

When shooting someone with a gun, there is an expectation of injury resulting in death. It's the ONLY reasonable expectation when firing a gun at someone.

When shooting someone with a taser gun, the same expectation of bringing about their imminent death is NOT there.

To compare 17 dead by taser gun to 17 dead by actual gun, and expect that public opinion regarding the police involved should be the anywhere close to the same in those cases is flawed.

True. The only use of their guns by police is to shoot for centre mass until dead in order to save themselves or the public. Tazers are (supposedly) non-lethal and are used for that reason. If people die because of tazer use (I don't believe tazers are lethal)then the police themselves have been misinformed. Whatever the cause of death (the tazer, the kneeling on the neck, whatever) the RCMP showed a alarming lack of common sense and a terrible eagerness to zap this poor guy. Thank-god this video was shot so that we can shed light on this disgusting behaviour. The public outcry is understandable and right.

I tent to agree with Colpy in some of this. With the use of the taser, the threat of death cannot be ignored.. If someone is tasered, there is a possibility that he/she will die as a result. Seems to me that since there was no evidence of a weapon, or any kind of a threat, four or five strapping young RCMP officers could have physically subdued and handcuffed this man without killing him

We've had more cops killed by civilians this year than vice versa. Just thinking we need some more balance . isn't it odd that we use electricity to restart the heart in medicine and to stop[mostly temporarily] it by police actions? Yes, I know it's a different electrical charge.

Not by "immigrant civilians" coming to your country to start a new life. The civilians that you refer to are your people.

? Is there a different value placed on a life according to their immigrant status?

Are 'our people' worthy targets? Are immigrants worth more? I don't quite get where a distinction between the two makes any difference.

Murder at the Vancouver Airport by the RCMP.

It looks like the RCMP broke his neck with the knee of an officer pressing down after being Tazered at least three times.

VANCOUVER — Astonishing video footage released yesterday shows Polish immigrant Robert Dziekanski did not resist police or confront them before officers zapped him with a taser, setting off a struggle that ended in his death in the international arrivals area of Vancouver's International Airport.

"I don't want to counter what she has to say. She's a grieving mother who tried for years to get her son to come to Canada, and upon his arrival he ended up deceased. It's a tragic story, and she's entitled to her opinion."

This is how rcmp, Csis, cia, mossad work, the CHICKEN WAY.they don't know nothing else.

The autopsy mentioned nothing about a broken neck. Where does this information come from?

This man is not completely innocent, but neither are the police. Why he felt compelled to smash a computer and throw furniture around is a bit of a mystery. The police in the video made no attempt to talk to the man to calm him down. I have always said the police have a difficult job, but this time they didnt do their job.

I'd like Canadians to compare the recent video of a man holding a knife to a hostage in Berlin and the actions of the police in that circumstance to the actions of the RCMP in the airport incident....

If you can't train a man to (two or three or four) to take charge of a situation without resorting to lethal force, why is that impossible for the RCMP?

HINT: The actions that resulted in the death of the Polish fellow were the result of hysteria and phobias built around the "safety" of new technology that promised non-lethal force was as easy as squeezing a trigger....

We gave ill-trained unexperienced morons tazer guns and told them that this was the alternative to both lethal force and intervention strategies that required more training and skill.

We've made the decision for the RCMP in this case because we the people decided that it wasn't necessarily the most prudent course of action to simply shoot the perp with a nine-milly, and we handed a bunch of goons the simple alternative of not having to decide what is or was appropriate in the given circumstances. It's far easier to tazer someone than it is to demand rationale thought balanced with compassion and sound judgment from a testosterone junkie....

WE the people own the responsibility for this mans death because we believe in the wisdom of modern technology as substitute for considered thought and balanced approach to problem solving. We don't have to worry about global warming...our technology will save us....etc. etc. etc.

While the merchantile mind of postmodern humanity is willing to relinquish all vestiges of humanity in the name of profit, we're learning to live with the digital outcomes that our technology and our stupidity create.

Welcome to Vancouver for the big party in 2010 for rich people and athletes who complain because there is no funding for their hobby (while the disabled, aboriginal and mentally ill, etc . basic human needs and rights are totally neglected).

If this incident (and a more recent report of a mentaly ill man in Nova Scotia who died a day after being tazered in Canada) doesn't scare the crap out of you, perhaps the idea of Vancouver Police having order another 70 of these weapons (on top of the 40 they already have ) to equip all of their " trained" officers to have for their own as opposed to "sharing" them. Are there that many Canadians and visitors that need to be controlled this way and are the deaths of innocent people not enough to justify getting them out of the hands of trigger happy thugs. Police expect and get a lot of sympathy for when one of their comrades dies in the line of duty, but they are paid and know ahead of time that is a risk that they take. I think visitors to Canada should be aware that our police have and are using these dangerous weapons on innocent people whose lives are lost and this is the risk they take coming to our "free" country.

RCMP spokepeople are in complete denial of what happened and this is really offensive. The video shot and shown unedited speaks for itself. Hearing these "police" defend their own murder is akin to listening to George W Bush justify the war in Iraq. The police are like thugs in that they will do and say anything to protect one of their own and that includes being in denial and lying. They stick together to protect their position of power. And now Police are in a position of power and now they have an added weapon at their discretion. I understand not all police are thugs, but I think the problem is far bigger than what they would let you believe. These thugs involved in this incident should be suspended "WITHOUT PAY" until the inquiry and subsequent trial are complete and if found guilty, be subjected to being attacked and tazered before going to jail. If the police don't kill you at the airport, the bed bugs you bring home from this infested city will surely drive you mad.

Dat fella in the Vancouver video was far from out of control, judging from my past worldly experiences. He just appeared like somebody, who was a little pissed off.

Study this video. http://eyohk.notlong.com
Police in action, using a taser.

As I was watching it I was hoping the wife would come out with a shotgun from under her seat and blast the stupid cop in his thick head.

You don't have to be cop hater or lover to see how many act. This is not an isolated incident.

For your enlightment the Police have one of the safest jobs in this country. There are five workers killed on the job every working day in Canda. Check it out.

this is what bothered me as well. No attempt at all to resuscitate. They just stood around and looked like "uh oh what now?" This makes two taser deaths in Vancouver in the last while.
They have to do more profiling of police officers to remove the cowboys and bullies
