Apparently a lot was staged. Just a rumour.
s.

I'm sure it was, and I suppose much of it has to be, to make it interesting, I have to
laugh when 'they', (any of them) start making a story out of the beautiful shots of the
animals, and continue talking, as though they are thinking for the animals, that is
hillarious, as they don't have a clue what the animals are thinking, but one has to
'get into it I guess', and not think about that, I love the shows, but can't go along
with much of that type of narration.
I guess it's OK for children, but not factual.

I remember watching one or two Wild Kingdom episodes as a kid, but I don't think I ever got into it.

Quite a joke. Quite a farce. It was taken off the air by the sponsor after it was "outed"

Bears fighting cougars, etc., and whasshisname right there to catch the "action".

In reality of course, bears, wolves, cougars, seldom if ever, cross one another's paths. But when they're in a fenced enclosure where they're bound to meet, a fight will probably ensue.

I hated it. Load of manure.

Oh yeah, agree with Talloola on that, I really thought the "editorializing" about what a hermit crab was thinking, say, was really silly

Overall, a LOT of "nature" shows are "faked" to some extent to this day. Still, I would rather see something that seems a tad "unnatural" happen on TV than have people thinking that animals in Zoos are worth seeing and "educational".

I would prefer if they weren't made to appear as if it was "caught on tape" and the full array of "tricks" used be detailed for the unaware.

Hmmm.. Maybe Penn and Teller could make a GOOD "nature" show- did they ever address nature shows on Bull###T??

Oh and the one things that wasn't fake was the hilarious danger that "Jim" guy was in

whasshisname = Tom, I believe. When this was on the air, I was about 5-6yrs old, and we
had a choice of CBC, CKCK (local) or the French channel out here on the Prairies as far as
the TV was concerned. No such thing as Cable TV (out here anyway) at that time. As a little
guy, that was the coolest thing on the Tube on a Saturday morning. A very different time...

Marlin in the Studio in the Safari Suit, with his assistant Tom (maybe Jim) out doing the dumb &
dangerous stuff.

Yepper, Ron, kind of a yuck even then.

We just had a tiny TV with rabbit ears, so guess how much reception we got.

Brings back old times for sure...

..............Soldiers of Fortune..........Now, THERE was a show........after school about 4:30. It's a wonder I passed that year......or any year for that matter.8O.

I watched a beautiful nature show tonight about the lives of four particular bald eagles, and how they struggled through the season, hunted, built their nests, raised their young, etc.
The photographer struggled by spending endless time in blinds, cameras built beside the
nest, and it was very real and original and true.

When done correctlyas this was done and not staged one gets to see the effort that has been put in and nature in its true reality.
