We don't know when that will be, VanIsle, the loonie may be here to stay.
I know you mean that the loon might take over the greenback and from what I've read, there is supposedly a slight chance of that happening but it's not to our advantage to have it happen. I think the longer the dollar stays up, the better the chances are of us having the combined USD/CAD and Mexico turned into one currency (amer----)can't remember what it's called. I don't think I want that but who knows - maybe in the end it could be a good thing. Maybe this is the result of Obama stating "buy American". We depend on what we export.

Loonie passes 97 U.S. cents....

Wow! I had a dog that passed a dime and he didn't enjoy the experience one bit.

I would imagine that passing that many pennies has gotta hurt even for a bird that size.

When you say it is not to OUR advantage do you mean yourself personally who will benefit from lower imported food and and other consumer goods which drive the market economy or do you mean the foreign corporations who own 85% of OUR nation's wealth?

That won't even dent the economy. When 85% of the profits go offshore anyway what difference does it make?

Our economy is a market economy meaning if you aren't spending we don't have an economy. If lower retail prices won't stimulate this type of economy then we're pooched.

When you say exports do you mean we'll only be getting 60 cents per barrel of oil instead of 65 cents? If the govt was really for the people we'd be selling our resources in CDN dollars instead of US. If we did then you'd see a CDN $ worth equal to the Euro.

As for the Amero, how keen would you be with sharing that 60 odd cents per barrel and all OUR other natural resource wealth with 400 Million Americas and Mexicans?

The US is broke and Mexicohas been kept in chaos by the US. What possible benefit could you or I personally gain from backing their currency with our resources both natural and human?

Ask a German what he or she thinks of the Euro before you consider having an Amero.

Here VanIsle, let me spell it out for you since you obviously missed it...

'Canada, on the other hand, posted better-than-expected jobs data last week, an improvement that could lead the country to raise interest rates much sooner than the U.S. Though any move to raise interest rates ahead of the U.S. could boost the loonie even further and scorch Canada's export oriented economy.'

ok... with me still? my point was, there is a bunch of seasonal workers about to be LAID OFF... aka E.I. see how this could affect the job less numbers and the premature raising of interest rates?

How proud Canadians will be when the dollar is worth more than the U.S currency. It should happen by the end of the year.
That is just silly. Canadians were so proud the last time they couldn't wait to cross the border and help out the Yank's economy - brain dead twits.

It is called the Amero and that is an ugly name. As for unifying the currency, I don’t think that is a good idea. US dollar doesn’t have bright future and I don’t think Canada should get involved with US dollar.

If we used it for trading rather than the US $, yeah. Otherwise it's silly.

Some commodities may be high but lumber for sure isn't and the high dollar is gong to really hurt us.
With the US dollar being worth a little less than junk bonds we need to find a new global currency or better yet go back to the gold standard.
