Liberals vow to stop oil tanker traffic along northern B.C. coast if elected

VANCOUVER -- The federal Liberals are promising a moratorium on oil tanker traffic along the northern coast of British Columbia.

The move would effectively kill any pipeline projects through the area -- including the controversial Northern Gateway pipeline that Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau opposes -- and make official a non-binding motion the House of Commons passed in 2010.

The Liberal pledge would put Dixon Entrance, Hecate Strait and Queen Charlotte Sound off limits to tanker traffic as part of the party's push to protect ecologically sensitive areas.

The move puts the Liberals at odds with the Conservatives who favour a pipeline to the West Coast to move Alberta oil overseas to Asia-Pacific markets.

The Liberals are going to kill a Liberal plan? The same way they said they were going to kill the GST?

So they still allow oil from offshore rigs from NFLD to be shipped by tanker to Vancouver?

Hey flossbag, what is a Hibernia?

Good. I notice all the pinheads who support this don't live here and won' be affected by tankers or pipeline leaking in their back yards. You want pipelines, run them through your own back yards tards.

One thing is for sure.

With all of the political turmoil surrounding oil, it really is time to move on.

And the usual BS argument about "well you use oil and gas so you are a hypocrite" stupidity don't fly cuz, if the crap is going in a tanker, it ain't gonna be goin' toward domestic use so stuff it where the sun don't shine buttercup.

We want NG and lots of tankers in BC. Except for a few idle rich that don't want anything. THere are thousands of good paying jobs going to be lost here because of some looser from Quebec.

** - CoastalTarSands.ca

Today 80% of BC residents and more than 50% of Canadians are opposed to the Enbridge Corporation’s Northern Gateway Pipeline Project. Now its time to make the rest of Canada understand just how destructive these Supertankers will be to the Pacific coast of Canada.

** The Facts - CoastalTarSands.ca

Only 29 per cent of those surveyed said they support "allowing crude oil supertankers through B.C.'s northern inside coastal waters," while 64 per cent said they are opposed. Fully 50 per cent said they are "strongly opposed." However, 64 per cent also said they believed the pipeline and tanker proposal would succeed, while only 12 per cent said it would fail.

This is because most people feel that their concerns mean nothing to the corporate owned government.

Do you know what hibernia is? It doesn't bother you that oil from offshore rigs on the grand banks of Newfoundland is shipped by tanker through the Panama canal all the way up to Vancouver into Barnet inlet to burnaby to be cooking into gasoline, diesel, jet and heating fuel to be consumed by off kilter, slow, stoned moonbats just like you?

Cool huh?

One potash bulker sinking would do 10X the damage as a tanker. Shhhhhh! Don't tell the moonbats.
Fun fact. They don't ship potash out of Kitimat which is where the terminus of the Northern Gateway will be. There are NO navigation beacons along the route that tankers would take in and out of Kitimat and the trip would entail a journey through the Hecate Strait, a stretch of water many seasoned mariners say is one of the most treacherous stretches of water on the planet.
I doubt one could pick a worse deep water port in BC to use as an oil shipping terminal. Just twin the damn line to Vancouver and tell the Chinese they'll have to drive their boats a wee bit further. Screw 'em.

Fun fact called the Asia Pacific Gateway. Ever heard of it?

Coming soon to Prince Rupericht. Canpotex terminal being built right now at the APG along side numerous other terminals with containers and bulkers out the yin yang around the same time Northern Gateway will be up and running with another potash port being built right now in Port Moody.

I can't wait to try some sylvite brine orca muk tuk when it washes ashore from the "Salish Sea".

Please don't cry.

That sounds great , but do you know how oil get's to the Haida Guai ? Justin wants to send the Haida back to the dark ages .
No tankers in Hecate Straight means no oil in the Queen Charlottes .

Interesting that you don't have a problem with BC's economy that relies on clear-cutting entire forests, flooding 1,000s of hectares for hydro projects and strip mining millions of acres for coal and ore all to be sold into the export markets.

Funny how that works, eh?
