There is no such thing as an assault rifle.
It can be anything you want it to be.

Therefore we review every firearm available in Canada and either put it on a list of assault weapons or not.

Not rocket science.

and as for the handgun ban given the amount of crime being committed with handguns and the movements in both Montreal and Toronto to ban them I can't see how a federal government could not be looking into it.

Its common sense.

This is a hunting rifle, great for coyotes, chambered to fire the most popular varmit round in the world. (.223 Remington)

This is a hunting rifle, chambered in one of the best deer cartridges there is.

While you're at it, read and learn.

Yeah, but the first one gives you a boner because it looks like an M16 or C-7. LOL

Again, I don't own a gun and don't need a gun, but here we are. If handguns are banned, do the criminals (who by definition just don't give a damn about the law or they wouldn't be criminals) stop buying them illegally and committing crimes with them? Does it just affect the law abiding who aren't the problem?

I can't remember the %'age but it's a crazy high number of the population of Canada that lives within 100 miles of the 49th parallel where the illegal handguns leak in from. Something like 80-90% of the 34,000,000 or so Canadians, isn't it? How is a handgun ban going to plug that leak?

Band Aid on a hemorrhaging wound. We need to strengthen laws for people caught in the commission of a crime with a gun.

But we can't, because we don't want to exclude the feelings of criminals and this government is all about inclusion.

If the majority of Canadians want to see them banned then they should be banned.

That's how things are supposed to work.

If crooks still have them so what? We don't back away from making a law we want because criminals are not going to obey it. We wouldn't have any laws at all.

LOL!!

Never saw the great attraction of the .270. Of course, down east in the bush, a .308 in a semi-auto rifle is about perfect for deer......even Jack O'Connor reccomended that combination.

I should mention my dad (the Deerslayer) was a fanatic about 7mm Mauser.........pretty damn close to .270.

Picked up the habit in the hitlerjunge?

You should be a poster boy for the NRA. You're singing their song about the idiocy of misdirected gun control.

OK, here's a story. A guy I use to know way back when had a father who collected Derringers. His father passed away and left him this Derringer collection which over the coarse of the next several decades (purchases and trades and gun shows, etc...) he grew to something like 80 of these tiny firearms, with almost all of them being antiques and some of some interesting historic value. This was his hobby and passion (he had a large knowledge base gained over his lifetime) and the sale of this collection would contribute hugely to this man's retirement fund.....and then the law changed.

Overnight it became illegal to sell or purchase a firearm with a barrel length less than a certain length or whatever the punchline was in Canada and his collection aquired over his lifetime (& his fathers) that would have been a chunky part of his retirement fund became monitarily valueless. His possessions went onto a list. Banned. Swipe of the pen. Now he could not sell these to other collectors, but could only leave them to his children in his will for inheritence....and his daughters just weren't interested. Zero compensation. Thanks for coming out.

When was the last time you (any of you?) have heard of a crime commited with a Derringer? How many school shootings or mass killing crazy's commited their atrocities with a sack full of Derringers?

Its an interesting story but I don't see how it applies here.

People who own handguns will lose money?

Guns aren't the problem, ethnic gangs are the problem but not selling guns to yo yos, Ali Baba, How Long, Bobby Two Dogs F-cking or Binder Dundat would be racist.

The handgun and assault weapon bans in Toronto and Montreal only make sense.

Both cities are ready for it.
