The prime minister’s (Trudeau, not Carney yet) comments were made behind closed doors at the economic summit after media had been asked to leave the room?

They were first reported by the Toronto Star. A senior government source confirmed the comments. The Globe is not identifying the source because they are not authorized to speak publicly? Like always?

This sounds awfully familiar. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told an economic summit on Friday that he believes U.S. President Donald Trump is sincere in his desire to annex Canada and that this stems from the American leader’s interest in gaining access to this country’s critical minerals, a source said.

Mr. Trudeau made the comments to an audience of about 200 business leaders, trade experts and union executives in Toronto who have gathered to map out ways to boost economic growth (for a change?) and attract new capital investment despite the looming threat of U.S. protectionism.

Mr. Trump has repeatedly ‘proposed’ to Canada in recent months that it could avoid tariffs if it agreed to a political union with the United States. He has “mockingly” (???) referred to Mr. Trudeau as the governor of the 51st state.

Trump refuses to deal with the Liberals and is waiting for Poilievre. We will see continued tarrif threats if no election is called and completed before G7 where a Can/US currency goes public.

Trudeau will only drag Carney deeper into the shit abyss. If Trump just flat out up and says tariffs are because or Liberal tyrants refusing to give Canadians the Right to call you out because he afraid of corruption charges. 3/4 of Canadians know what needs to be done, call an election.

The Liberal Party of Canada has announced two leadership debates — one in English and one in French — to both be held in Montreal (‘cuz Montreal) later this month, ahead of the vote to determine their next leader and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s successor.

On Saturday, the Liberal party announced the French debate will take place on Feb. 24, and the English debate the following day…as the nation waits while Parliament is prorogued for this circus.

Have you tried calling an American government agency (like the US DOT FMCSA?)…& to get through their menu?

Officially or not, isn’t Spanish at least the second (unofficial?) US language? Just say’n…& no, the political debates aren’t in multiple languages (OAC exempt), the services are, & that’s not necessarily a bad thing. If Canada ends up being a state(s), all of a sudden I think you would be seeing multiple official languages in the debate structure…but anyway…

The enthronement of Liberal leadership hopeful Mark Carney as the first emperor of Canada seems all but assured, as ministers, media and minions enthusiastically fawn over him.

But why are ministers rushing to Carney, a man without parliamentary position or security clearance, to appraise him of the nature of possible tariffs against the U.S. and to seek his advice (?) aside from the Trudeau-ites following the endorse of Trudeau/Telford/Butts?

Meanwhile, our national broadcaster is so besotted by Carney’s words that when he held a press conference on Wednesday, it afforded him 36 minutes of uninterrupted airtime, the kind of treatment the CBC usually reserves for the prime minister.

The Liberal leadership race doesn’t end until March 9, but so desperate are the Liberal ranks to see the back of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, they have seized on Carney as the saviour of the party, and the country.

At a press conference on Wednesday, Carney praised a number of ministers for their work and then revealed they were also seeking his advice.

He named Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly, Finance Minister Dominic LeBlanc, Public Safety Minister David McGuinty and Industry Minister François-Philippe Champagne, saying, “They keep me informed.”

Carney was talking about tariffs and how Canada might respond to the United States. It was then that he disclosed that he was giving the ministers advice on how to proceed.

“I provide some prospective on that (tariffs), and particularly with respect to where we go from here, the next phase of potential discussions,” he said?

Carney is not even an MP, he has never been in government, the public have never elected him to any public office. And yet, he is helping set government policy by directing ministers on national affairs…like through at least much of Trudeau’s last term, if not longer?

This is rightly a matter that should be raised in Parliament, but unfortunately, Trudeau thought it a good idea to sideline democracy during a national crisis. Oh well.

Then the Investigative Journalism Foundation (IJF), an organization that focuses on issues relating to public interest and strengthening democracy, asked Liberal leadership candidates to disclose their assets, sources of income and liabilities (which they would need to do if they were MPs).

Carney refused. Two other candidates, Ruby Dhalla and Frank Baylis, did not respond to the IJF. Chrystia Freeland, the former finance minister, and Gould have disclosed their assets (& happen to be the only ones that are currently MP’s) in accordance with conflict of interest rules.

When Carney was appointed to head Trudeau’s task force on economic growth last September, it was arranged so that he would report to the party, instead of a government entity like the Prime Minister’s Office or the Privy Council Office. The Conservatives charged that the arrangement allowed him to sidestep conflict of interest rules.

Parliament may be prorogued by the Liberals through the GG, but Canada is still a democracy and our elected officials are (suppose to be) held to a high standard. When an unelected businessman (like Kevin O’Leary as of late?) is actively involved in government affairs, he should be held to the same standard.

Of course, emperors always feel the rules don’t apply to them.
