Liberals hold on to honeymoon gains in national polls

Justin Trudeau's Liberals continue to enjoy more support today than they did in the 2015 federal election and have yet to see their poll numbers take a negative turn. But as the government enters the second year of its four-year mandate, it's making decisions that have the potential to disappoint some of its new supporters.

Over the last quarter, the Liberals have averaged 47.9 per cent support in national polls, a marginal gain over the previous quarter but up 8.4 points compared to election night. The Conservatives have averaged 28.7 per cent, down 3.2 points from the election, while the New Democrats have slipped 7.1 points to just 12.6 per cent support nationwide.

While the shifts in support since the previous quarter are insignificant, they are nonetheless consistent. The Conservatives have nudged downwards in two quarters and this is the fourth consecutive quarter in which support for the NDP has dropped. The Liberals have been the beneficiaries, as they have made gains in every quarter since last year's election.

The Conservatives are down almost uniformly in most parts of Canada since the election. They have slipped 3.1 points in Alberta, 3.5 points in both Ontario and Quebec, 3.6 points in B.C. and 4.4 points in Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

it's the canadian media party that is still most of the problem. too many drones being told what it is, what it's all about by the moral and intellectual superiors.

the system was finally broken down in the U.S. and will happen here too. the dummies will have to hurt enough before they can get better again.

keep the faith. Trumpism will drift northward.

The problem is that conservativism has been hijacked by social conservatives. I've said repeatedly that Canadians are fiscally conservative and socially liberal. Klein was a pretty good representation of what that looked like and he was pretty popular as were the team of Chretien/Martin. The only significant difference was that Chretien was being pulled to the left by the Liberals and Klein was being pulled to the right by conservatives. All in all though the differences between them wasn't as significant as the ideologues would have us believe. Both cut and balanced their budgets which made Canada and Alberta stronger.

Conservative parties today have abandoned fiscal conservatism (highlighted by self professed conservatives embracing Trump). Since they aren't interested in fiscal conservatism, the choice is therefore between salty social conservatives and whiny SJW's because they are highjacking the discussion. The only way to bring some sanity back to political discourse, is to tell the Barsinister's and the Loc's of the world to run along and let the grownups deal with the problems

You're wrong Cannuck.

Clearly this is an example of the collapse of the political left.

With no leader for over a year now, why aren't the numbers double digit?
