It's just more Liberal delusions

By MICHAEL HARRIS

No they can't win an election.
That's my short response to an article by the former campaign chairman for the Liberal Party of Canada, David Herle, in which he asserts that the Dion-led Grits can still form the next federal government.
David is a smart guy, but the fine intelligence has been distorted by years of taking the hallucinogens of partisanship.
The wishful thinking also comes from viewing the world through power-crazed 3-D glasses, a pair of which every Liberal owns. Take his assertion that the Liberals have been positioning themselves to exploit "a Conservative party stationed too far right" on the political spectrum. The Liberals haven't been positioning themselves anywhere. In fact, the only thing they have been good at recently is a long and shameful political retreat from their own principles, abstaining from votes, supporting budgets they say are taking the country in the wrong direction, and abandoning their position on the military mission to Afghanistan.
As for the Conservatives being too far right for a lot of Canadians, that is not what I have witnessed during the two years of the Harper government. If anything, the Tories have been steadily inching toward the Holy Land of Canadian politics -- the unoffending middle. Stephen Harper's shilly-shallying on his promise to dump the gun registry shows how scrupulously he has tried to avoid being pegged as a bug-eyed neo-con. It is working.
I also wonder about Herle's peculiar notion of how to save the party from Stephane Dion. Under Dion, the Liberals are headed into the Gelded Age, without the testosterone to fight for anything but more breathing room between themselves and the next election.
Yet Herle argues the Grits should stop measuring Dion by the usual standards reserved for an Opposition boss -- the better to stress his strengths as a "new and different type of leader."
And what kind of leader is that? One who hopes to win office by loading a new tax on an electorate that experiences chest pains when it pulls up in front of the gas pumps. One who struggles in one official language and is ignored in the other.
Herle makes much of the fact that despite Dion's deficits as a politician he still managed to win the Liberal leadership from the likes of Bob Rae and Michael Ignatieff.
But was it Stephane Dion's magic that carried the day in Montreal, or was it what Ipsos-Reid president Darrell Bricker opined after attending the convention: "The Liberals actually lost control of their own convention. The ego of the leading candidates made deal-making impossible and they got a leader that no one really wanted."
And when they don't give you money, David, they don't give you votes either. Just ask Hillary.
Still, Herle congratulates Dion for being an "anti-politician" with a passion for the environment. More delusion. Dion "didn't get the job done" when he and the Liberals presided over the environment for a decade; and no one in recent history has jockeyed more for partisan advantage, if ineptly, than Stephane Dion.
The surest sign that Herle's endorsement of Dion is, ahem, somewhat disingenuous is his advice for this hapless man miscast as a leader. He says Dion should make the final retreat and leave the daily grind in the House to his caucus, while he travels the country converting voters to the Grit cause. Herle even suggests the party should "re-introduce" Dion to Quebecers who have known the man since William Shatner was exploring strange new worlds.
The one thing Dion has done is turn Jack Layton into our Barack Obama. No, seriously.

I like Dion.

But I don't like his policies.

And I loathe the Liberal Party of Canada.

I hope Harris is correct.

I'm not at all sure he is: I think the CPC has been screwing up royally.

We'll see.

Hey China keep a close eye on Canadian politics, just make sure your biases will not hold you from seeing the truth and except the truth as it is. Conservative ideology has died when Civil Liberties were inducted here in North America. The old Con Gestapo ideology has a very limited life span here in Canada. Here in Canada you can sue the Government of the day and if you have merit on your case you win. Again I have no problem with the Chinese people but your Government; you tell them you are not happy with they way they treat you and my friend trust me you will have visitors in the middle of the night. So back to Canadian politics.

First off all; great Neo Con spin; on the above….. but keep on, because the Snow White Cons need people like you, just don’t forget ELECTIONS CANADA, THE PUBLIC SERVANTS OF CANADA and the pension funds , AFGHANISTAN, IRAQ, THE ECONOMY, AS WELL THE CON tight lip, we see that 34% popularity for the Cons 31% popularity for the Libs, and all the above have the Cons deeply worried.
Yes the CPC is driving at the edge of the road and there is a big cliff at the edge.
The Conservatives are acting as if they are the opposition and their tight lip strategy will send them down the cliff. The economy and the public servants are the Achilles heal of the Conservatives. The public servants of Canada have the power to convert the Snow White Conservatives to Gray dirty white if you know what I mean. Harper is not fit to run Canada behind closed doors. Harper was complaining on his strongest attribute transparency, what transparency? The man is self centered and Canadians will deny him the chance of pissing on Canadian voters for the second time.
As for Dion he is not the man to lead the Liberal Party of Canada to a land slide victory.

My reality is that I hope Dion is still leader of the Liberal Party when the next election writ is dropped, because it will likely mean that the CPC will win a majority.

The Liberal Party of Canada.........You mean those guys who were handed a forty two billion dollar deficit by the P.Cs after nine years of Mulroney who added four hundred and fifty billion to Canada's debt? In case you hadn't noticed, We are still paying off that debt, and we will be paying it until your grand children are on pensions, and you loathe the Liberal party of Canada........God help us...
I loathe lying, American wannabe politicians like Harper and Mulroney who take care of their friends before they take care of the country.

Don't laugh too hard there, Sock. As long as Liberals lack leadership and littleminds associate socialist with Communist, it could very well happen. Why do you think Harper has been avoiding anything controversial in the task of governing and Dion has been going along for the ride to avoid an election call?

If the Libs don’t change leader soon, because of Dion’s inability to be charismatic we may see a minority Con government again. As for a Con majority? That’s a real stretch.

All political parties in Canada should be disbanded and thier leadership arrested for treason. SPP is treason, war for profit is wrong ,capitalists must be crushed and exterminated.

Yes, the sponsorship scandal was expensive. The total cost according to the Gomery inquiry was $72 million dollars. The annual interest on Mulroney's debt is around $30 billion dollars.

As long as Ms Couillard's mother was there to get a paycheque, what makes her any different than anyone who works for the government? What news show or private intel do you have that says anything about any sexual act ... and how does it concern you anyhow?

Hey lone wolf, we are talking about the snow whites here, remember? How transparent they were supposed to be? These 2 cabinet ministers who got blown out they were let go because they were doing business with their dicks first and their stupid heads second. If you think that all sexual positions during a sexual encounter where not performed you are walking with your head in the sand my friend. The out come here is that CONFLICT OF INTEREST MEANS NOTHING TO YOU and Canada’s National security according to some Cons is nobodies’ business. What are you talking about man?

Lemme guess.... You made your millions as a mindreader, right? I really don't care if they stood on their heads and dangled them into the gargoyles on the House of Commons. It's still none of your business. Who are you to judge someone's honour? Maybe she fed the powers that be intel of Mom Boucher? Ever think of that? HA did have something to do with the death of a loved one - or could you hear with your mouth in gear? Get your head out of your ass.

Look, the comparison here is that conservatives are calling it nobody’s business when in fact it is everyone’s business. I am sure you know National Security today it has become a very big issue for many self-sustaining countries like Canada. When a minister stops over at a girl friends with important Government information, and feels that during his stay at the girl friends house it would be safer to bring these important documents in the house and after his visit, forgets to take the important documents back to his office for over 5 days, what is that tell you? The stay was great and work became secondary. So, how is that, this is no ones business when in fact IT IS!!!!!

As for me making bodily comments about Miss Julie Couillard I do apologize, but that sexy dress she was wearing showing her indisputably sexy cleavage line was very seductive, so seductive that 2 known members of the Conservative Government of Canada indulged in lust with Miss Couillard. I am just another internet surfer who happens to believe that we can vent from anger towards political madness we don’t like, knowingly we would not be able to change the world anyway and by simply posting on this electronic media we get some type of gratification when we through some ideas out for debate through the web, or rocks as in many cases more often than ideas. So, I won’t buy the Conservative transparent stupid story. Whose head is inside whose ass?
Pigs at the Trough is the movie we are all subjected to watching at the moment.
